I ordered this when it first was announced over at the great Donny Hathaway website http://www.donnyhathaway.info from amazon france and am looking forward to it. One of the most underrated singer/songwriters ever.

This seems like a great way to get all of Donny's recordings in one place. It's just too bad they didn't include a 5th disc featuring his work with Roberta Flack.

This release is the same as the "Original Album Series" of Donny Hathaway except for the 2 unreleased songs and the different artwork. I would guess that the inside booklet and such is different, too.
You can Pre-order the french 4 CDs french boxset "Someday We'll All Be Free" for around 27€ ($37). It's a real bargain for a 4 cds box set. Don't forget it's a limited edition (5000) only sold in France. Free shipping to France. The Box is a A5 size boxset incl. a 16 pages booklet with rare pictures inside. The Box includes :
- Everything is Everything - Donny Hathaway - Extension Of A Man - Live - In Performance (minus Nu-Po) - Rare Tracks (Lord Help me, Be There, This Christmas, A Dream, You were meant for me, What a woman really means...) - 5 unreleased studio tracks + 2 unreleased live tracks (Nu-Po + Love, Love, Love)
The unreleased tracks are : - Jealous Guy (studio version) - No Other One But You (demo from 74) - The Essence of Destiny (demo from 74) - Going Down (demo from 74) - Make it On You Own (demo from 75)

This has been pushed back to mid April according to an email I received from amazon, france, although amazon U.S. was still saying that it ships in 12-13 days last I looked.
Just saw that, that's crazy. that's half of what anybody else is selling it at. I wonder if this is truly limited to 5000 copies and if they didn't buy up whatever quantity they could, because at $45 retail, that would literally be at cost. Of course, I'm sure Collector's Choice will be coming out with a cheap version any day now.

There are a handful of Amazon dealers who routinely sell imports at what appear to be wholesale prices, or even below wholesale. ImportCDs and BlowItOutaHere are my personal favourites. I don't know if they're wholesalers themselves or they just have great connections or what, but waiting on imports for a little while until they get copies in stock always leads to good savings.
But it's a question of whether we can stand to wait (these dealers usually don't have the titles until a couple of weeks after they're released), and in cases like this Hathaway box, we risk missing out on a limited edition pressing by waiting. It worked out well this time.

I bought mine on amazon.france when I saw the 5000 limited release quantity, because I know how fast that quantity goes on Rhino Handmade or Hip-O-Select. I also bought an additional copy on amazon here. I don't know why importcds would even want to sell it for $23.95, unless they have a huge quantity they need to sell. They don't need to be that low based on what everybody else is selling it at.

I notice that importcds has been lower on their pricing than normal, like they are really making a push in this economy to liquidate some stock. In the past they would usually just make sure they were a penny lower, but now on some of their titles they are needlessly low, IMO. On the Hathaway title, they could easily sell that for $35+, nobody else is less than $39, there is no need for them to sell it at $27 unless they are just that desperate to get rid of inventory. Volume is volume but their profit margins on stuff like that are negligible.

Just got mine today...sounds great so far!
Minor quibbles...I wish the liner notes were available in English somewhere. And why wasn't the In Performance version of "Nu-Po" included to make this "really" complete?
