Saturday night I saw what was supposedly the second show in Todd's current tour, focusing on the blues and the material of Robert Johnson. He calls the tour Todd Rundgren's Johnson, though I don't know if an album is coming out of this. On amazon, you can download three songs, a kind of digital EP that he's calling Todd Rundgren's Short Johnson, but I've yet to see mention of a full album.

If you get a chance to see this tour though, it's worthwhile. The club he played was about a 500-seat venue. I would have loved to see him squeeze in a little more of his original material. The most notable tracks of his own that he included were "Black Maria" and "I Saw The Light", but he did a lot of Robert Johnson tracks and some other blues or blues-based songs that were really great. He's incredibly versatile. He played for well over two hours and was hysterical most of the night, particularly his interplay with his diehard fans and with Kasim Sulton on bass. All in all though, a very enjoyable show.

Only a couple Rundgren songs. Definitely no Cars or New Cars songs. This was mostly pretty straight blues.

Rudngren was so God-awful when we saw him last year w/ The Hooters and Hall & Oates I'd have preferred to see his Johnson.
Thank God the others were so good.
