There was a buzz today in NYC over where the old Virgin Records store at Union Square is located. That the wonderful burger chain called In-N-Out Burger was coming to NYC. For a little while it looked like the Summer of 2010 would be one of delicious burgers and hot fries. But alas: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/0 ... 22002.html Anyone pass that location today?

The name "in-n-out" does not appeal to me for any food product.

Alan It also matters how it chooses to exit. Food that comes back up the same route it took down is not appealing. And even if it manages to go the whole nine yards for a normal exit, that's still not something I like to ponder while eating.

I saw those guys as I was riding the M1 bus to work this morning. It was early enough that I could have gotten off, taken a flyer, waited for another bus and still gotten to work on time. Too bad I didn't (get a flyer, that is) - it might have made a nice collector's item.

Anyone check to see if the sign was still out there today, post April Fools?
I'd check them out...they have DEVOTED fans out west. And Five Guys and Shake Shack need some competition here.

I've been to California many times and always seem to miss going to In N Out. I'm going to San Francisco again in June...will try it out.
I always try to hit a Jack In The Box too......one of my favorite fast food places, also not out east.

Part of the subtext of this April Fool's Day prank is that In-N-Out Burger has refused to expand beyond their chain beyond their ability to supply their West Coast restaraunts with their own high-quality, fresh ground beef. Quote: In-N-Out Burger: A Behind-the-Counter Look at the Fast-Food Chain That Breaks All the Rules (Hardcover) ~ Stacy Perman http://www.amazon.com/dp/0061346713/?tag=imwan-20Amazon Best of the Month, April 2009: With In-N-Out Burger: A Behind-the-Counter Look at the Fast-Food Chain That Breaks All the Rules, BusinessWeek writer Stacy Perman presents a chronicle of how a family-run California hamburger joint went on to become an American pop culture icon. Founded in 1948 by Harry Snyder and his wife Esther in Baldwin Park, CA, In-N-Out Burger attracted a cult-like fanbase of cruising teens, surfers, and celebrities alike (who developed a secret shorthand for custom orders). As they expanded slowly over the years across California and into Nevada, Arizona, and Utah, they never sacrificed their core customer-service values and commitment to quality. Their made-to-order success story packs enough family drama to fuel an HBO miniseries. After Harry died in 1976, his son Rich took over the business (and was responsible for adding discreet Bible verses to In-N-Out cups and wrappers) until his death in a 1993 plane crash. His brother Guy, a drag-racing rebel with a dark side, stepped in to helm the business until his accidental overdose in 1999. If you've never had an In-N-Out burger, Perman's book just might inspire you to find a good reason to get yourself to Southern California and seek out an off-the-menu 3x3 with a side of Animal Style fries. --Brad Thomas Parsons

That's in Fisherman's Wharf.....I walked by it once a few years ago (XMAS day), and it was closed.
There's another one off of Higway 101 a few miles south of SF airport. I drove to it once, but there was a power outage in the strip mall and it was closed.

I'm sure they're tasty, but how different can a burger be?

Steve wrote: Any trip to Vegas is not complete without a visit to In-n-Out. Thanks to DanO, I was able to get a crack at a In-N-Out Burger when I was out that way last July. And the wait was worth it. I found it to be very tasty.......much better than a McD's or a Wendy's. Here on LI, the best fast food burger right now is 5 Guys (who just opened a new restaurant in Merrick, not far from where Jimbo lives).

5 Guys is great. One opened here last summer and I've been about once a month since then. A little pricey for a burger place, but really good.

I had a turkey bacon avacado burger from Ruby Tuesday last night. It had what they call a pretzel bun. It was very good. I think I like plain avacado on a burger even more than guacamole.
