Loved this guy when I was a kid. He sorta inspired a whole slew of imitators who eventually found their own styles...

That was the point of the drawing Darin. If you don't see it than Adams didn't do a good job

I get a vibe of it from Rorschach and the Milleresque Batman.

Really? Kelley Jones, Frank Miller, and so on. It's clear as a bell to me.

Okay, I see it now and you're right. I honestly didn't get but a glance at it before putting it up. I was looking for X-Men pics mostly. It was big and it was DC so I put it up.

One of the things that I think makes a great artist great is when they can draw characters in classic, dated costumes and they still look uber cool.

As a kid I loved to death his X-men annual 9 and the New Mutants special where they were in Asgard. Read them over and over. I'm going to dig them up.

Not really.

While he's drawing characters from alternate versions of the DCU, he's still using his classic Art Adams proportions, rendering style, linework, etc.

This is a cool one that I personally only recently discovered. Art Adams draws the entire "X" universe from 1988, which was the year I started collecting:

I remember that issue. That was the lying c*cksucker issue that announced an ongoing LONGSHOT series by Nocenti and Adams for the upcoming year, but it never happened.

I really miss that cohesive X-verse that this cover represented. The current comics just seem to have lost this quality.

I just went and looked at that, 'cause I have the issue sitting out.

Sounds like it would have been cool. "Each issue set in a different world." It was going to be Exiles before Exiles was Exiles!

It was the first book I was really, really looking forward to. I still wish they'd do it. Back when I wanted to write comics, I came up with a whole "Longshot in Asgard" story.

I imagine at the time there were people looking at that cover and missing the days when there was just one team with "X" in front of their name. But I agree, the above was ideal. Well, this was kind of the golden age for me. Three core teams plus a slightly removed fourth, that seemed just right.

I remember that issue of Action Comics. It was one of the first annuals after the Byrne reboot.

Wow, if they got Nocenti and Adams back together to do a Longshot series now ... that'd be wild. "Longshot Forever"!
