Very difficult to say. I generally don't do "favorites."

I'd say my favorite writer is probably Alan Moore, though there are several guys in a very close second, Gaiman among them. of the mainstream stuff I've read lately, Ellis seems the best of the bunch, and of the mainstream stuff from my heyday, I really enjoyed Claremont and Stern.

Same with artists. Tough to call a favorite. I like a lot of artists for a lot of different reasonings, depending on the book. If I had to pick one guy to illustrate everything I read, I'd maybe go with John Romita Jr. There is nothing he can't do. I'm also very, very fond of Dave Sim's work.

John Byrne and John Buscema are both my favourites. I genuinely cannot decide which artist I admire more. They're of equal greatness to me. Even if I look at it in terms of which artist has had the biggest impact on the styles of others, just to narrow things down a bit, it's still impossible for me to decide in favour of one or the other. If I allow my opinion of Byrne's comments to cloud my judgement of his work, I guess I'd have to say Buscema....but John Byrne is damned good, in my opinion, and..they're both my all-time fave!

Stan Lee - Had to be my choice for Writer. Nothing is more fun to read than the way Stan could make the ridiculous sound like the sublime. Along with the classic "It's propelled by the speed of it's own shrinkage", there are so many moments of inspired weirdness - such as Reed's observation about Lockjaw (while trying to explain to the others how his powers work) "Amazing! He's able to convert food into raw energy!", as if this was some unprecedented event of great import. Along with that, there's the whole mock Shakespearian way he wrote things ("If this be...."). Nobody entertains me more as a writer of comics than Stan Lee. Steve Gerber would be a close second, though.

My favorite artist would probably be Brian Bolland...........those Judge Dredd's really stick out in my mind.

Even though my love affair with BKV is fairly fresh, I'd be hard pressed to pick another writer to choose as favourite. Stern, DeMatteis, Gaiman, Byrne, Brubaker, and of course Stan Lee all rate pretty high in my mind. I'm sure there are others... Moore...

Artist? Dave Gibbons is probably my top favourite. Alan Davis a close second. Byrne's in my top five.

I do characters more than creators.

However, my fav all-time writer and comics personality by far is Stan Lee.

Currently? I don't know. I kinda liked millar, but CW the main book is a disaster, kind of. I'd say Brubaker for Captain America and doing the unthinkable well, even if X-men's not too great (imo). But I buy characters, not creators.

My favorite artist? Well, currently John romita Jr. All-time? I like Byrne and Romita Sr. on Marvel. I don't really have a DC favorite. Maybe Jurgens. But no one I enjoyed for a long time.

However, the artist whose work had the most impact on me, blew me away, and that I'd pay good money to see again at Marvel (as opposed to the counterfeit I used for the rest of my transactions) is todd Mcfarlane. I had seen his weirdness on Hulk and been intrigued (didn't know who he was). But when he came on Spider-man when I was 10, it instantly made the Spider-mans I saw before seem dated and old fashioned. Bought t-shirts, posters, etc. with his Spider-man on it. Marvel Tales with McFarlane covers. I couldn't get enough. No one before or since had that impact on me.

With the exception of "Blood of the Demon", I have never bought a title based on the creator alone. I'm glad when a favorite creator is writing or drawing a title, but it's not generally enough to make me go pick up, say, the Outsiders or something. Even Marv Wolfman returning to Nightwing didn't get me to pick that up (although if it had been Wolfman/Perez I might have wavered!)

I don't think I've wavered from this opinion since reading Watchmen six years ago (although The Killing Joke/ League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Volumes 1 & 2, Swamp Thing 21-50, Top Ten/ Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?/ For the Man Who Has Everything/ From Hell/ etc have only helped my opinion of his talents as a writer.

WRITER: Steve Gerber
Gerber wrote some seriously weird stuff! I enjoyed his run on THE DEFENDERS. I was a bit stunned by his couple issues on CAPTAIN AMERICA where the lead character did battle with caveman-like being with a giant head, the statue of Abraham Lincoln, and a Volkswagen Beetle! Of course, his MAN-THING and HOWARD THE DUCK are quite cynical.

But, let me be clear, as for the guy I saw at a couple of comic book conventions in the late 1970s, I didn't care for his personality. I'd look at his output all day, but I wouldn't want to converse with the man for any length of time.

Don Rosa (?) does some really good work with the Ducks. Not everyone would be into them, but he is really good.

As of this morning, my favourites are Roger Stern and JR Jr.

My favorite writer, bar none, Roger Stern. He's the artistic version of the guy who does "the" version of a character. Put him in the Avengers, he nails the way they should be. Spider-Man, no problem. I have not read them all, but I can easily say that I've never read a Roger Stern story that I didn't enjoy.

Artist, that's a whole 'nother animal. I would most likely have to give the nod to John Byrne. I'll admit, happily, that I like his old stuff better. His old stuff being Marvel, and that's the stuff I've read. His Superman notwithstanding, I just didn't take to his DC work all that much. I don't know or care for many of those characters. But if I think of a comic book character in my mind, 7 times out of 10, they will look to me the way that John Byrne drew them.
