Jackson Browne fans are gonna have a good summer. While at the MusiCares tribute to Neil Young, where Browne performed a superb cover of Young's 'Don't Let It Bring You Down,' the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Famer told Spinner he will be releasing a new album in May. "I'm putting out this record of David Lindley and me in Spain with this Spanish percussion and I kind of held it back in order to make it the double album it should be," Browne said. "So that's called 'Love Is Strange' and it's me and David Lindley."
A two-disc set recorded in Spain and coming out on Browne's own Inside Records, the collection offers new takes on both rarities ('Sit Down Servant,' 'For Taking the Trouble,' Lindley's 'El Rayo X') and some of Browne's biggest hits ('Take It Easy' 'Late for the Sky,' 'These Days'). These versions promise to offer some very new arrangements, including 'Running on Empty' with Lindley on Hawaiian guitar, 'For Everyman,' with Tino di Geraldo on tablas and cajons and Lindley's FM radio hit 'Mercury Blues,' with Browne on baritone guitar.
The two, who will be touring together starting July 20 in Las Vegas and wrapping up August 15, have of course enjoyed a long friendship and history of collaborations. And Browne, in the liner notes, released exclusively to Spinner, writes playfully that the trip abroad strengthened that rapport. "Some great things happened, beginning with the normally reclusive (hermitlike even) Lindley becoming dependent on me for food and getting to and from his hotel. Why had I not thought of this before? Take him where he doesn't speak the language and he will HAVE TO leave the gig and come with you to the restaurant, or to the club. This was an unexpected strategy breakthrough in a pursuit that for a legion of friends, disciples and admirers has become known as 'stalking the wild Lindley.'"
The experience was obviously a poignant and memorable one for Browne, who wraps the liners by saying, "[It was] a flash in time that went by so effortlessly, and with such pleasure, that I must ask myself if it really happened. But here it is -- a CD of some recorded moments, or perhaps a bridge, or a small door, between a life lived mostly in America and time spent with some really good friends in Spain."

I'm fairly sure it's the Ian & Sylvia song that McCartney covered on Wild Life. I think Jackson has covered it before, although I am drawing a blank on where.

WARNING: More TERRIBLE packaging. Cardboard, with cardboard cd holders. Both discs were quite scratched.
GRRRR.
There's just something about going out buying a new cd & running home to..............Put it in the scratch removal machine that makes me want to barf.
Oh, & there is a small amount of silver damage that the machine can't get out. No wonder the idiots at ebay only include jewelcase & cover art in their "condition descriptions"; the f'ing labels have made brand new scratched cd's sop.
GRR.
More: This packaging is such a piece of s#&t that rice paper sleeves won't even fit; I'm going to have to put the cd's in a jewelcase & store it next to this awful packaging. At this point, I'd almost rather have a burned copy with homemade cover art. At least I'd be able to store the cd's with the cover!
I've played cd #1. It's ok, not as good as the 2006 Philadelphia boot I mentioned earlier though. They were playing in Spain & some of the song selection leans towards those with Hispanic taste in music, which isn't me. In both the case of Browne & Bruce Cockburn, they pretty much lost me when they went on their world music kicks. Some of this is quite good, but again I prefer the bootleg.
Even more: I just noticed that the songs I like on this run about 1 hour. Hm............. it would make a very nice single cdr.
