Product Description
If there is one word to best describe what Extreme is like live, it would be PERFORMANCE. To hear an Extreme record and to see an Extreme concert has always been 2 different experiences until now! Nuno Bettencourt's guitar work is electrifying and to hear some of the earlier material with this live treatment will certainly excite fans both and old and new. On a visual level, the energy of the band is unrelenting, led by frontman Gary Cherone's command of the stage.

EXTREME: 'Take Us Alive' DVD Trailer Available - Feb. 18, 2010

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbe ... mID=135330

Reunited Massachusetts hard rockers EXTREME are scheduled to release a new DVD/CD entitled "Take Us Alive" in the spring via Victor Entertainment in Japan and Frontiers Records in Europe. The set is expected to include footage that was shot on August 8, 2009 at the House of Blues in Boston as well as "four bonus videos."

A trailer for the forthcoming DVD can be viewed below. Also available is fan-filmed video footage of EXTREME performing a cover of VAN HALEN's "Mean Street" at the above-mentioned concert.

EXTREME guitarist Nuno Bettencourt recently spent time on the road with the Grammy Award-winning R&B artist Rihanna.

"Saudades de Rock", the latest album from EXTREME, sold 6,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 78 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD entered the U.K. chart at position No. 80.

The band's first studio album in thirteen years, "Saudades de Rock" (pronounced "sow-dodge") was released in the U.S. on August 12, 2008 on Open E Records and distributed by Fontana. The European version of the CD, which came out on August 1, 2008, included a bonus track, the "Americocaine" demo from 1985, the very first studio recording of EXTREME.

The iconic rock foursome — vocalist Gary Cherone, Bettencourt, bassist Pat Badger and new drummer Kevin Figueiredo — recorded their fifth studio offering at NRG Studios in Los Angeles with Bettencourt at the helm as producer and mixer. "Saudades de Rock" boasts 13 tracks, including the infectious roar of "Star", the groove-laden, swagger of "King Of The Ladies", a raw funk rock anthem called "Learn To Love", and the expressive ballad "Ghost".

Man does that "Mean Street" cover kick ass. Nuno is still a killer guitarist. Holy shit, what a solo! Then again, Gary did that when he was in Van Halen. While Van Halen III blew serious chunks, Gary was very good live with VH and I shall stand by that!

The last time I saw Gary Cherone perform "Mean Street" it was with a Van Halen cover band.

(pause)

Now that I think about it, it was with Van Halen. :?

So I guess Eddie's guitar playing wasn't good since he was just playing "covers"? Was Sammy in a cover band too?

I don't know what you're talking about, IP. Sammy Davis Jr. was never in Van Halen. :o

I think he meant Sammy Sosa, who also was never in Van Halen.

Sosa was the one who didn't kiss Archie Bunker.

I loved when he'd sing "Eagles Fly" onstage solo with an acoustic guitar. On his last tour with VH, Sam the Eagle did most of the song by himself, but Eddie, Alex and Michael joined him for the last fourth of the song. Good times.

Yeah, that made me tear up-but it's really Sam's unibrow that makes it work.

Definitely the most patriotic of VH's lead singers, to be sure.

Really? More than this guy?

Sorry, this was the only pic I could find from his tenure in the band, and unfortunately, it's from after the infamous blowup after EVH pitched a fit onstage that his monitors were tuned to the wrong radio station.

This Sam's tenure was "butchered" quite badly. He just never got his due. Except from Alice. (shudder...)

Sam started dyeing his hair after he left VH. Look how old working with Eddie made him!

Legitimate question (for a change) - on XM today, I saw "More Than Words" pop up on the screen, so I left it on. I realized that I couldn't hear the guitar, so I turned it up, then realized I couldn't hear it because there was no guitar. It was an acapella version with just percussion underneath (so, not really acapella, but still...). Interesting harmonies that didn't sound like the original - anyone have an idea where it's from? It was really cool to hear the harmonies, including some that may be on the original but never stood out to me before.

I love this kind of stuff - it's why, even though I'm not a huge "Pet Sounds" fan, I bought the box set, because of the vocals-only tracks in that set. So cool to hear that stuff unadorned.

"More Than Words" as overplayed as it is, is still a gorgeous song. There were several versions of the song and I do remember the one you mentioned getting some airplay.
