I recently got and read Troy Hickman's collected "Common Grounds." I love it. For me THIS is what grown-up (more or less) superhero comics look like! I love the warm, human stories. They're not angst-free, but that's not what they're ALL about.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. It may be the first time in my life I've done anything that's been called "grown up"! ;)

You might be interested in the fact that there's a new CG series in the works (and a possible TV show with Starz Media), as well as Twilight Guardian and my other stuff.

Anyway, thanks again. Always happy to see someone is still reading the darned thing!

Steve (or anyone else), if you'd like a taste of it, Top Cow has a full story (drawn by George Perez) on its site and you can read it here: http://www.topcow.com/reader/418

One thing about IMWAN--you never know when a creator might actually show up with a response to something you've said about the work. Glad I had just said something nice!

But really, I enjoyed this so much. It's the work of somebody who's obviously a huge superhero fan, but it goes so far beyond garden-variety parodies and re-imaginings. Good to hear there's more in the works!

The snip I saw on AmazWAN looked pretty intriguing.

Didn't know you lived in Lafayette, Troy. I went to Purdue and lived in West Lafayette from 1995-2002.

Yup, I've lived here my entire life (though I spend about two months out of the year in Vancouver these days).

We probably just missed each other at Purdue. I got my Bachelor's and Master's there, and I taught there from '89 to '94! These days I teach across the river at Ivy Tech.

I keep starting Steve Ditko threads, but no luck so far :(

Hey Troy, glad you are here :)

Thanks! And if Ditko shows up, someone call me; I may be his biggest fan (though this diet is helping). ;)

I forgot, I started getting this when it first came out, and then for some reason my LCS stopped getting it.
I picked up the 1st 6 issues again, and will check them out this weekend.

I wasn't familiar with this work, but checking up on it, it looks good. I think I will check it out.

(And sorry, Troy -- I'm not very "in the know" until gradually in 2004-2005. I drifted back to following the industry then).

I know the feeling. I have close to 25,000 comics, and 90% of them are from the 50s to the 80s. Much like Brian Wilson, I just wasn't made for these times... ;)

My "dead zone" is from about 1984 to 2004.
