Robert Plant is to release a new solo album later this year.
According to a report here, Percy will call this record It’s Rude To Say No. Plant is working in Nashville with producer Buddy Miller and one guest on the album is singer-songwriter Darrell Scott.
It’s not known if Alison Krauss, with whom Plant recorded the acclaimed Raising Sand album, will be involved.
Scott says of working with the one-time Led Zeppelin frontman:
“Those two-plus weeks were some of the most memorable times I’ve ever had in the studio. The number one thing is that Robert loves music. You think they’re posing and just getting through it, but I was humbled with how Robert Plant loved the music – old country, blues, rockabilly…”

And Krauss has already announced gigs with Union Station later this year. But they toured together through much of 2008, and then the Grammy wins came early in 2009... so it's really only a few months between that and the sessions referenced above. Having Buddy Miller as producer suggests that he's maintaining some continuity with the Sand era, and I fully expect Krauss will guest somewhere on the new album.
Plant's never been much of one to let grass grow under his feet and he's always been the most trepidatious of laboring underneath the Zeppelin legacy (as well he should, since it's his "instrument" that would show the most decline/change since the glory days), so this shouldn't really be a big surprise to anyone who's been paying attention.

Robert should try using an octave doubler for his voice. When he gets to the point in a Zep song that he knows he can't hit the high note, he hits the footswitch, sings an octave lower than he normally would, and it comes out through the PA an octave higher. At least it works for my guitar this way...

If Robert and Alison won't be continuing with their union for the immediate future, at least he's working with the REMARKABLE Buddy Miller, which is just as good if not better. I like this avenue he's taken in his evergreen years and hope no loud rock pieces are forthcoming.

I'm not too interested in this, but I love Plant, so I'll probably give it a try when it comes out, but I doubt it ...
Robert Plant has confirmed a 12 city North American tour. Beginning in July, this 1st leg of shows which will be followed by further dates in the fall will preview material from a new album.
Featuring a diverse group of musicians - Patty Griffin, vocals; Darrell Scott, multi instrumentalist/vocals; Byron House, Bass/Vocals; Marco Giovino, drums and percussion/vocals, including co-producer Buddy Miller, guitar/vocals. The album is set for release on Rounder, late summer/early fall.
Kicking off in Memphis on July 13th (see full tour schedule below) the tour will feature Plant and the 'Band of Joy' - the same musicians who also appear and play on the album. Says Plant: "It's been a blast working on these new songs…and I'm enjoying such creativity and vitality. It's been a remarkable change of direction for all of us and as a group we all seem to have developed a new groove."

Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant will return with his first new album since his Grammy-winning collaboration with Allison Krauss, Raising Sand, on September 14th. Band of Joy's self-titled disc features an all-star squad of musicians: Patty Griffin on vocals, multi-instrumentalist Darrell Scott, guitarist and co-producer Buddy Miller, drummer Marco Giovino and bassist Byron House. The original Band of Joy paired Plant with late drummer John Bonham.
"Buddy's integral to this album, you can hear his taste all over the instrumentation," said Plant in a statement. "Buddy's zone is beautiful, with a lot of reflections going back into mid-Fifties rockabilly, the singing fishermen and all the great country stuff, along with the soul and R&B from Memphis."
Band of Joy features Plant and Co. covering Los Lobos' "Angel Dance," traditional songs like "Satan, Your Kingdom Must Come Down" and "Cindy I'll Marry You Someday," Townes Van Zandt's "Harm's Swift Way" and, most surprisingly, a pair of tracks off Minnesota downbeat indie rock band Low's 2005 album The Great Destroyer, "Silver Rider" and "Monkey." Considering how widely the band has cast its net, "House of Cards" could be a cover of a track by Radiohead, Elton John or Mary Chapin Carpenter.

Why do I get the feeling there's an import (or going to be an import) of this "Band of Joy" with extra tracks. Live tracks, perhaps. Should I wait? Anyone out there have any info either way?

Wonderful album. Great song picks (have to check out Low) and the performances are spot on perfect. As with all the best covers albums, Plant owns these songs when he sings them Great mix of folk/blues/rock/country, he's not afraid of mixing it up. No, it's not Zep by a long shot, but on this and the 3 preceding albums, Plant appears to be on a creative roll and he ain't looking back. Good for him. Now if only he would do an album with Emmylou.

Every listing (UK & Japan) I've come across lists only 12 tracks, so it looks like this will join Raising Sand as the rare Plant release which does not have an import version with bonus tracks.

I have to agree, I think Plant has aged extremely well...I find his recent material to be more satisfify than his earlier solo work (although I love it as well). Sure, I would love to see a Zep reunion, but I don't blame Plant at all for saying, been there, done that. He is comfortable with who he is, and I think we all benefit from the art that he continues to provide us.
