Hmmmm...I hope this is the US version of the UK Greatest Hits And More or whatever it's called.
I also hope ALL the live tracks are included, especially the ones on the iTunes Greatest Hits Live.
I of course, doubt that, and realize the only way I'll legally be able to get all the live tracks is to go the iTunes route. But I've never used iTunes and don't intent to start now.
So, I'll wait and see exactly what this release is and then do what I must. Putting money in Pete's pockets is of the utmost importance.
If anyone knows what's on this upcoming release, let us know.

I preordered Greatest Hits And More from AmazonUK about 2 weeks ago for $15.65 USD .When I recieved it I didn't even bother with disc 1 , I went straight to the live disc and imo it is great . From start to finish I really enjoy it . Even the post Moon songs . It's an excellent live cd .

I'm hoping this is an ALL LIVE 2 CD set. As long as the live material has never been released before, then I'll consider getting it.

That's just the iTunes version. If that's 2 CDs, that's a ripoff, but I'd get it too. I'd hope it would include more songs though.
Still unclear if this release will be all live or a combo with the new best-of. In an interview Pete Townshend said it was nice to get the last recording they did with Entwistle on the new best-of which was "Real Good Looking Boy".
He said it was from an EP or something in 2002? I know of no such thing and was unaware another version of this song existed (the 2004 version had Greg Lake on bass). Can anyone tell me if the Entwistle version really is on this new best-of?

It's off - brace yourself - a previous compilation, "Then And Now".

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001IXTMW/?tag=imwan-20

I'd love to see if this covers all the iTunes tracks, or even all the tracks that were on the original fan club release.

Alan:
I know that about the song, what I'm talking about is this other version with the Ox from 2002 which he was saying appears on this new comp. I find it hard to believe that is so, but Townshend apparantley said it in an interview.
Some guy on Amazon.com asked this:
Also, any word on if the version of "Real Good Looking Boy" is the same version found on "Then and Now"? Townshend said in an interview that that track was "among the last to feature John Entwistle," yet the 2004 released version featured Greg Lake on bass, not Entwistle. There was a version of that song recorded with John Entwistle, but then it was re-recorded after his death with Lake on bass.

So, I doubt the 2002 version is on there, but who knows? Also, I read this Greatest Hits has new mastering and it is not by Jon Astley.
Thanks to the Super Bowl, Greatest Hits jumped up 74 spots on the charts this week.

The older Pete gets, the less credence I place in the stuff he babbles about in interviews.

IP - I didn't make that connection. For some reason, I thought the original had Entwistle on it. That's interesting, though, if there was an Entwistle version, although if there is such a version, I find it hard to believe it wouldn't have been exploited then.

Besides, I couldn't resist pointing out that it was another comp...

Don't know if this has actually been asked - or answered - but I just received the UK import "Greatest Hits & More". The live disc has 16 tracks. The iTunes set has 22 tracks. The tracks missing from the CD, but appearing on iTunes are:

Join Together
Love Reign O'er Me
Baba O'Riley
(above from Universal 1989)

The Real Me
The Kids are Alright
(above from Watford 2002)

Eminence Front
(from Brisbane 2009)

Does anyone know if the above "iTunes only" tracks have ever appeared on CD before? If not, I might have to shell out $6.00 to download them, but that's a REAL last resort. I wonder if the 1989 live tracks are the same as on the "Join Together" album?

Also, there's no mention that the "Real Good Looking Boy" on the UK "Greatest Hits" disc that I have is anything other than the version from "Then & Now". In fact the description of the song from the booklet mentions that "Keith and John were gone" by the time Pete and Roger recorded it. I haven't been able to play it yet.

DanO:
I'm almost 100% sure those 1989 tracks are from Join Together. The others I believe to be unreleased. Thanks for the info about "Real Good Looking Boy"-as far as I know, Pete is the only one who says they did a different version of it w/ The Ox-if so, why the hell was that not on the Then And Now CD?

How could there be any unreleased live Who from 2002 forward? Haven't they been selling CD's ( and DVD's on one tour) of all there shows at The Music.com?

Got this from the listing on Amazon.com:

Product Description
22 Career Spanning Live Performances from one of the greatest bands of all time! The Who is fresh in everyone's minds thanks to a fantastic performance at the Superbowl this February Rare live Performances of some of their biggest hits such as Pinball Wizard, Who Are You, Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again.

If 22 songs is the total for the iTunes exclusive, then I assume this is that spread out to 2 discs which is OK I suppose. It also means those of us who refused to cave to iTunes just might win this one.
No track listing yet, but this seems to be what we were hoping for.

Since this 2 CD version has 22 tracks, I'm guessing it is the same as the iTunes version, which also boasts 22 tracks. Still waiting on a full track listing on amazon.com, so if anyone sees/hears of a definite list for the physical CD version of The Who's "Greatest Hits" Live, please do tell. Amazon did post the CD cover art, which is identical to the art of the iTunes version (cartoon, colored drawing of guitar stacks with tears in them, similar to the amp design of the 1994 Box Set and 1994 VHS/2009 DVD of "Maximum R&B Live."

P.S. the "Unreleased Who from 2002," I imagine, would be the full, early 2002 live concerts the band did in the UK when John Entwistle was still alive. By the time of the summer 2002 tour in the U.S., Entwistle died (on the eve of the tour on June 27, 2002, in Las Vegas), but he did in fact play on the February (and maybe January?) 2002 shows with The Who. Those gigs, and the John Entwistle version of "Real Good Looking Boy" - there's a studio version that was recorded with him on bass, but later scrapped, in favor of a re-recorded version sometime in 2003 or 04 with Greg Lake on bass. It was Lake's only time to play bass with The Who; Pino played bass on "Old Red Wine," the other then-new songs in 2004.

Being a massive John Entwistle fan (he's the reason why I started playing bass), I am fired up about the 2002 live cuts he appears on here (from his last shows) on this collection, and, of course, the 1970s material is a must. Altough I do wish the 2002 shows with Entwistle (and the original studio version of "Real Good Looking Boy" with Entwistle on bass) would be released in full on CD (and DVD), as well as the prime 1970-1976 concerts on CD and DVD.

I'm with you there, only I would stretch it back to 1965. I'm still not sure why their Fillmore East show from 1968 isn't out yet.

Basically, disc one is an edited-down re-release of the CD "View From A Backstage Pass," a fan-club only 2 CD that the band released to launch its new website a few years back. That was a fun release. The tracks were mixed by longtime Who soundman Bobby Pridden with consultation from the first Who fan, "Irish Jack" Lyons. They are raw-sounding and, to quote Pete "most enjoyable." Here's the info, with my own two cents: I'd buy Live At Leeds first, and then check out these:

1. I Can't Explain (December 1971, San Francisco) -- from VFABP
2. Substitute (December 1971, San Francisco) -- from VFABP
3. Happy Jack (February 1970, Hull, England) -- from VFABP
4. I'm A Boy (February 1970, Hull, England) -- from VFABP
5. Behind Blue Eyes December 1971, San Francisco) -- from VFABP -- WORTH GETTING
6. Pinball Wizard (June 1976, Swansea, England) -- from VFABP
7. I'm Free (June 1976, Swansea, England) -- from VFABP
8. Squeeze Box (June 1976, Swansea, England) -- from VFABP
9. Naked Eye/Let's See Action/My Generation (Medley) (May 1974, CHARLTON, England) --from VFABP -- WORTH GETTING
10. 5.15 (December 1973, Capital Centre, Largo) -- from VFABP -- WORTH GETTING
11. Won't Get Fooled Again (December 1973, Capital Centre, Largo) -- from VFABP -- WORTH GETTING
12. Magic Bus (February 1970, Leeds University, England) -- from Live At Leeds
13. My Generation (1965, BBC Sessions) -- from BBC Sessions CD

Disc: 2
1. I Can See For Miles (August 1989, Los Angeles, CA) -- from the Tommy Live DVD
2. Join Together (August 1989, Los Angeles, CA) -- from the Tommy Live DVD
3. Love Reign O'er Me (August 1989, Los Angeles, CA) -- from the Tommy Live DVD
4. Baba O'Riley (August 1989, Los Angeles, CA) -- from the Tommy Live DVD
5. Who Are You (August 1989, Los Angeles, CA) -- from the Tommy Live DVD
6. The Real Me (January 2002, Watford Hity Hall) -- UNRELEASED (was posted on Pete's old website)
7. The Kids Are Alright (February 2002, London, England) -- UNRELEASED (was posted on Pete's old website)
8. Eminence Front (March 2009, Brisbane) -- UNRELEASED
9. A Man In A Purple Dress (March 2007, Uniondale, New York) -- UNRELEASED

Hope this helps--
Jeff

I have "View From A Backstage Pass."

Would I be right to assume that this release has nothing that I don't have already and that the only reason to buy it would be if the tracks were remastered? (I think they sound a bit too raw on VFABP!)

Thanks
