2 x 4s are good for getting people's attention. Anyway so I've heard.

Quoted for truthiness. And to banish forever my 2222 post count.

Yes, they are. Again with the quoting for the truthiness.

In that context, they are known as a "clue-by-four."

Would you believe I was the only one in my law school class who could answer this question?

It illustrates an ancient contract law principle -- that terms in a contract have their plain and ordinary meaning UNLESS external evidence would show trade custom that the words don't mean what they say.

Most people balk at this concept, including law students. So professors use the the 2x4 to illustrate. Ours asked does anybody know the dimensions of a 2x4. When after a while, I answered, everybody looked at me like I was an alien come to earth who had blown my cover.

After that, I was the awe-inspiring boy who had known 2x4's aren't 2x4's.

(I swear, those students showed up with their doobies and their sleeping, and their parents money . . . )

They were probably just chuckling that you were so intimately familiar with the dimensions of your wood. :)

Maybe they were laughing at me, and maybe I swore that day that I would have my revenge.

But Jay, you're not particularly vindictive.

By the way, what ARE you doing with that 2x4? :twitch:

I would, in fact, believe that Lil' Jay was the only one in his Law School class that knew that.

A 2 x 4 isn't 2 x 4?

Is there nothing left to believe in?

Nope, nothing. And you especially can't believe in Beatles.

Why did I capitalize Law School above?

They used to be. If you open the walls in houses build before, I think, about the late 50's - early 60's, you'll find actual 2 x 4 dimension lumber. And if in good condition, it will be hard as concrete.

Knowing Lil' Jay, he's probably going to use that 2 x 4 to build another strong relationship that will stand the test of time, reaching ever forward to the future, bridging the gaps between him and others as a resilient tribute and testament of a properly constructed friendship.

That, or a tree house for his kids, maybe. :ohyes:

I'll bet most 7-Eleven's aren't open from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, either. The world is so untidy.
