Wasn't aware of this and I think Levitz probably had it right that extending them will dilute them, which is why it isn't surprising that DiDio is going to do that very thing.

Jeez.
On the one hand, why not? I mean, they own the property, and it's not like Alan Moore would otherwise be THIS CLOSE to doing more work for DC if they didn't. With the right talent on board, the books would sell through the roof, and DC is after all, a business.
On the other hand....really? Is there any property or concept Dan DiDio won't run into the ground as he sees fit? And the (thankfully rejected) idea of tying Watchmen into DC continuity via the 52 universes is one of the worst the company has ever had.

I would really like to see some more of the past stories of the variious characters. I thonk it would be interesting. But with DC's track record of late, I think it is a very bad idea.

Come on, now...you guys don't want to see Dr. Manhattan fighting the Spectre? Or find out that Earth: Watchmen (Earth 52.5) is the true and original home of Power Girl? Or that there's a Paradise Island on Earth: Watchmen with a super militant lesbian Wonder Woman living on it? Or that there's a still existing planet Krypton in the Earth:Watchmen universe, and that.....

Well it sounds horrible, but I've seen so many things ruined that all I have to say about it is really I guess if they want to do it sure whatever, They can't take the original book away, so if they fuck up the new one all you have to do is not read it I guess. With the success of the movie I guess they would have a market, with all those people who didn't actually know what the significance of the story was and hadn't read it, thinking that the Watchmen was so cool.

I'm of the belief that a new story won't hurt the legacy of the original, so I'm cool with that end of it-- but I'll be highly skeptical of the odds on having a good, successful sequel or prequel.

The only cool thing about that article was this: And it's only cool because Art Adams has Batman smacking down Rorschach...

I'd rather see the Watchmen universe pulled in to mainstream DCU a la GJ's use of Kingdom Come in JSA.
I kid.

Not much to say on the subject. Won't be reading it, won't be endorsing it, won't give it the time of day. From a business point of view it's an obvious move and I respect their right to do it, but from an artistic point of view it's just a crap decision all around. From a creative standpoint, Watchmen should be left as it is, as a singular work with no want or need of expansion.
But reality is reality. This was sadly inevitable.

Honestly, this will never happen. I'll eat my shoe. Why debate a Rick Johnston rumour post? Can see why DC would want to do it, but who in their right mind would jump into this project?

For me, it'll depend on the talent involved. If it's Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, I won't be able to ignore it.

The first one sucked enough....I'd never spend $$ on any follow up. I got chumped enough the first time around.

I think some prequel adventures would be okay.
