No firm details, but Yoko is apparently saving for retirement:

Reissues to follow Plastic Ono Band concert

The celebration of music created by John Lennon, Yoko Ono and their friends after the split-up of The Beatles is expected to continue beyond the reunion performance of the Plastic Ono Band at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on Feb. 16.

Since late last year, EMI has been working on a John Lennon reissue series to celebrate the 70th anniversary of his birth on Oct. 9, 1940. Initial plans call for the release of expanded editions of five of Lennon's solo albums and, for the first time, a box set of his commercially released work. EMI has not announced release dates of any of the reissues nor the specific albums.

EMI's Capitol Records reissued several of Lennon's solo discs between 2000 and 2004. The 1969 Plastic Ono Band's "Live Peace in Toronto" was remixed and reissued in 1995. The only Lennon box set was the four-CD "Anthology," a compilation of demos, home recordings and outtakes.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't "John Lennon Anthology", in fact, the second Lennon boxed set? I seem to recall an early-90's 4-disc slipcase set that was out-of-print by the time the "Anthology" set was released.

you are correct...would be nice for them to remaster and flush out the notes...

absolutely there was a box set and it was excellent. it was one of those box sets that had everything you wanted.

the anthology box set, for me, is very underwhelming.

One of the more interesting aspects of that first Lennon box is that it offered consumers the opportunity to have all of the Lennon tracks from Double Fantasy and Milk And Honey on one disc, without the Yoko songs interspersed in between.

The Lennon and Anthology boxes were two very different animals. Lennon was a four disc collection of commercially available recordnings, much like this forthcoming box is described. The only rarities were three songs from John's last concert appearance with Elton John at Madison Square Garden which had appeared on an Elton John vinyl EP release. The Anthology album was four discs of demos, alternate takes, and the such, pretty much all previously unreleased.

With all the attention going to the box sets, I would like to point out that the solo albums were also already reissued with bonus material. Remember Yoko fiddling about with the May Pang vocals on Walls & Bridges ?!

I'm only in if these remasters aren't brickwalled. I've had enough shitty reissues to last me a life time...

I have the Imagine box. It was UK only, though EMI imported a bunch of them.

IMO, track wise it's perfect. But the sound quality is DREADFUL. It's the opposite of the bright compressed cd's, no top end at all. It sounds horribly muddy.

As one of my friends is fond of saying, 180 degrees from dysfunctional is still dysfunctional.........

That Cheap Track backed "I'm Losing You" was worth the whole Anthology box.

The song are also available on Elton's "Here And There" CD

if i recall correctly, yoko not only remastered and remixed the lennon albums, she also added and subtracted things.

I think that track also appears on the WORKING CLASS HERO compilation from a few years ago. I agree, it's great.

I don't have the ANTHOLOGY box -- too much for me -- but I do wish "Be My Baby" had been included on the RNR remaster.

I can't see taking the plunge again. I just traded in all of the 00-04 remasters and MoFi's and replaced them with the Japanese SHM-CD paper sleeve box. All sound and look quite lovely, so that's it for me.

The only thing that drove me crazy with the box is it included everything from Imagine except one track I believe, and it was, if memory serves: I don't want to be a soldier (or How Can you Sleep). That always drove me crazy, but I agree, it was a great set. Definitely liked what they did with Disc 4.

Regarding the Cheap Trick Track on the rarities...thankfully it is also on the single disc distillation of the larger box.
