Found a very interesting interview with Paul Levitz on his upcoming return to writing the Legion of Super Heroes. His runs on the LSH in the '70s and '80s were my Legion era and I'm really looking forward to seeing what he does with it:

Of particular note to me were the following quotes:

Paul Levitz wrote:
But this isn't about unfinished business for me, this is about trying to do my best work under the current conditions and seeing if the skillsets that I've got, that were significant in this business, are still significant and good tricks in this day.

This is awesome. Nice to see that kind of professional attitude.

I have one storyline listed that I gave [Editor] Brian [Cunningham] that Keith circled with "I WANNA DO THAT!" Keith is interested in doing something, I had a couple of delightful lunches with [classic Legion artist] James Sherman and he wants to come back and do something... There're so many guys, either old friends or new friends who've come into the business since I was active as a writer, that it'd be great to work with.

James Sherman doing the Legion! James Sherman doing the Legion! James Sherman doing the Legion!

I'd be curious to see what Sherman's stuff looks like these days, but the idea is definitely intriguing.

And the return of Levitz/Giffen would be COMIX NIRVANA.

Sherman isn't my favorite Legion artist, but I find great happiness in knowing that someone else will be getting to see their favorite Legion artist return.

Sort of a reverse schadenfreude. I think the Buddhists call it mudita.

I have to admit I really have liked the art I've seen from this. I do wish Saturn Girl would grow her hair out. Between this, New Teen Titans: Games and Birds of Prey returning, it's been a good week for DC news.

Oh, I wouldn't say he's my absolute favorite, but I sure enjoyed his work when he was on it (my absolute favorite will always be Curt Swan, but that ship has long since sailed).

I'll have to look into that, because that's a term I need to make use of.

Just checked. Mudita it is. This is a concept I am going to endeavor to embrace even more than I already do. Far more.

I agree. I wish it was someone other than Barbara Gordon as Oracle but I'm looking forward to these with guarded optimism. The art looks good and I do love seeing Nightwing in his old costume. Something about it always appeals to me more than the current bland one.

And I know he draws T&A but I like Benes on Birds of Prey. Comics should look a little sexy.

Allen, I think you and I are the only ones who like Nightwing's "disco look".

You might be right :D. Maybe it's the color scheme or my memory from when it first appeared.

Having seen interviews with Levitz, he doesn't look like someone who's a comic book company president / writer. He looks like some management guy who could work for any major corporation. I don't know if this makes any sense, but he has this very average look about him. I don't mean that in a derogatory sense -- he comes off like a nice enough guy, but he looks like some guy you'd see at a family reunion or something.

He's a throwback to the editors of the Silver Age. Jacket and tie, no superhero t-shirts or backwards baseball cap.

You mean a grown up, like the old days.

Crawling forth from the WANderground to ask:

Who is that in the middle with arms folded?

I want Mon-El! No Mon-El?

I want Superboy and Supergirl OUT of this. But it seems like I'll be disappointed in that.

All in all, tho, this sounds like a real treat for this longtime Legion fan, the only DC book I gave a fig about.

Even if Superboy was in it.

There's going to be two books, though. Adventure Comics will feature stories of young Clark Kent and the Legion -- that'll be the Superboy And The Legion stuff. The Legion Of Super Heroes will be the book that carries the storyline on from Legion of Three Worlds.

And that's Brainiac 5.

Without Superboy, there is no legion in my opinion.
