Very cool! This would complete the DP catalogue, unless they revisit the 80s and 90s albums. The 80s albums were remastered by Mercury/Universal, but they were a little underwhelming in the bonus department, but sounded fine, even though there was zero noticeable difference. Lookign forward to this one though!
Anniversary Reissue Of Deep Purple's Come Taste The Band In The Works
According to Deep Purple fan-site The Highway Star, Glenn Hughes (ex-Deep Purple, Trapeze, Black Sabbath) has broken the news on Twitter that he’s been indeed working with producer Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin, Joe Bonamassa, Iron Maiden), and they are working on the remixes for the reissue of Deep Purple's 1975 album 'Come Taste The Band'. Still a work in progress, songs that have received the treatment so far include 'You Keep On Moving', 'Gettin’ Tighter', 'Dealer' and 'I Need Love'.
Come Taste The Band was recorded between August 3 and September 1, 1975 at Musicland Studios in Munich, Germany, and released in October 1975. The album was co-produced and engineered by the band and longtime associate Martin Birch (Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath). It is the only Deep Purple studio record featuring Tommy Bolin, who replaced Ritchie Blackmore on lead guitar. When Blackmore left the band, many observers and critics assumed that Deep Purple would not continue. It was David Coverdale who asked Jon Lord to keep the band together, and Tommy Bolin was asked to take the guitar slot.
The band was rounded off by bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes, keyboardist Jon Lord and drummer Ian Paice.
Shirley has since posted regarding the remixes on his Facebook page :
"Just finishing a remix of the Deep Purple album, Come Taste The Band. What a trip!! It's been such fun - started off with 'The Drifter' and didn't want to stray too much from the originals, but by the end I'm pushing it, and there are some different bits and pieces all over - I'm diggin' it. Sent the mixes to both David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes, who also came up to my studio, The Cave, for a day - Coverdale: 'Kick arse. KS...a veritable sonic treat...' Glenn Hughes: 'Yeah baby!...sounds great...Drums are way better...sounds more cohesive...two thumbs up...' I was a Deep Purple fan before I was a Zeppelin fan."

I hope they work quicker as the catalogue progresses -- can't wait for the deluxe anniversary remaster of this one: Ahh, Joe Lynn Turner, the Gary Cherone of Deep Purple!

I'll pass on this . I'm a huge Deep Purple fan but I never liked this album . IMO it is by far the weakest DP album . How come the remastered In Rock was never released here ? I have the EMI import but Rhino list's it in all of their DP releases as "also available" and I believe they even list a catalog number for it . I emailed Rhino a few times about this but never got a response.

It's not classic Purple, but there's some amazing songs and Tommy Bolin was a frickin' genius. The things I didn't like were the Funk/Soul/R&B workouts which were just an excuse for Glenn Hughes and his coked-up ego and bad Stevie Wonder impressions, which is why Blackmore quit. But when it cooks, it's a very good album.

I like this album, and I saw the Mk.4 group live. No word whether there will be any unreleased bonus tracks. Apparently, two more songs were recorded, but they are backing tracks with no vocals. One of them was re-recorded for one of David Coverdale's pre-Whitesnake solo albums.

There are bonus tracks, just don't know what yet-probably just alternate versions/outtakes/new remixes like Stormbringer. Hopefully, there will be some actual unreleased songs, most likely instrumental backing tracks as you mentioned.

The bonus tracks will probably be some of the songs from the "Days May Come And Days May Go" cd . I believe that was everything that was left over from the CTTB sessions .

I would love to see the early Whitesnake albums remastered...before they became a hair band. Micky Moody and Bernie Marsden were a great guitar duo.

They were so well done, especially the albums from 1978-1982. I still listen to those remasters all the time. Great music (when Whitesnake were a Hard Rock/R&B/Blues outfit), and great packaging and sonic quality by Peter Mew.

Most have a 4 to 6 of bonus tracks except Saints And Sinners which only has 3 . They all have very nice booklets . They were released in 2006 and 2007 and are still available.

Mark Kravitz wrote: I need to look into them...anyplace I can get them in the US? Mark: I got them very reasonably from AmazonUK, but I just checked Tower.com and they have them in the $15-$17 range which is pretty damn good, but they may take 3-5 weeks. The Trouble remaster adds the Snakebite EP which was great and the Live In The Heart Of The City remaster includes both the 1978 and 1980 recordings as a 2CD set and is absolutely killer. EMI did a fantastic job with these and the liner notes are great too. A truly great remaster series. I enjoyed the Hair Metal era much less although they were really only Hair Metal in look not music, but everything changed with Slide It In. All those 1984-on up remasters are CD/DVDs and bizarrely each are available in the US except the massive-selling Whitesnake album from 1987!

EMI's Whitesnake remasters (by Pete Mew) sound compressed and loud. The bonus tracks and liner notes are fine, but the sound... puh!

I went onto AmazonUK and saw them...I'll have to start getting them. Whitesnake was a great band before they went too commercial.

I wouldn't totally write off the "commercial" side, though... the band was still worth listening to with John Sykes in the fold. Steve Vai was always a really strange choice, though.

The commercial era was good but I really preferred the 70's/early 80's version of Whitesnake. I used to have 1 or 2 boots from that era but I have no idea what happened to them.

I much prefer the Blues oriented Whitesnake to the mid-late 80's beast, but that was pretty good stuff with quite the guitar virtuosos (Sykes, Campbell, Vandenberg and Vai). It was just too slick and vapid. Mark, I believe as an old fan you'll really enjoy the remasters. As to your audio preference I can't see how anyone would find them loud and compressed-I have to turn them up and they are not much different than the original vinyl I used to have. If Mac Claus finds them that way, he hears it differently than me which is fine, but IMO this is one case where the remastering was quite subtle to me.

I'm not exactly and audiophile so I'm sure I will enjoy the remastering. I haven't been sorry with any remasters I've purchased over the years from any of my bands.
