I remember this one when it first aired. Tom Hanks, not yet a mega-super-star, guested on Family Ties as "Uncle Ned," a corporate banker who fudged some records to prevent a company from being bought out in an effort to save the jobs of those who worked for said company. (Translation: "Reagan was evil.") It was one of those weird scenes that briefly took the sitcom out of the realm of comedy and into actual drama (sitdram?).

I don't think it would have the same impact. Television is soooo different now than it was back in the 70's. Back then there really only were 3 networks. Now we've got cable and all this other stuff. Networks just don't have identities like they did back in the day.

Geez, I've actually never seen that before. I had no idea they did, like, all their songs that night on Ed Sullivan.

There was also the late, great George Reeves' appearance as Superman on the I Love Lucy show...
