Despite some great material involving the following ideas... I'd still get rid of them...
Skaar, Lyra, the whole "child abuse" element added to the Hulk's origin by Bill Mantlo, the whole "Bruce killed his father" element added to the Hulk's origin by Peter David. Remove those things and the character will be "fixed" as far as I'm concerned.

Bruce Banner, constantly on the run from the government, other superheroes, and villains, trying to rid himself of the savage Hulk that he turns into under moments of extreme stress. Despite the danger, he often finds himself uncontrollably drawn into helping people. Behind the scenes, Betty Ross, Leonard Samson, and Jennifer Walters work to help him as much as possible.
Basically, take the best of the comics and the TV series, keep it as simple as possible, and make it an ongoing horror/suspense book.

Agreed. Put Monk on the title now.
And make the U-Foes kick-ass again.
I also wonder if there is a way to translate the "Russian terrorist" element into a more modern plot thread (and NOT skrulls).

Bruce Banner takes a job as the cruise director on a luxury ocean liner, believing that the placid calm of the deep sea can soothe the savage breast of the Hulk.
But he is wrong, dead wrong. Nobody on board can figure out who is the Hulk. Maybe a few people here and there get eaten. Maybe that's a little much.
After a while, Banner applies to work on a different cruise ship. Repeat.

And it's a gay cruise ship, and there is a YMCA on board.

Too soon?

Too soon? Stuff like that could be captured in a single story arc. Hulk and Banner turn out to have different views on gay marriage, and Hulk becomes a hero to the gays. "Hulk know what it feels like to be called different. HULK NOT DIFFERENT!! HULK SMASH!" The gays eventually turn on him because he has cankles. And though Bruce is a raging homophobe, he is super-thin and likes to wear purple.

Re-name him David Banner and have him go from town to town each issue, embarking on a new adventure each issue. When you open the last page, which always shows David leaving town, hitchhking, a computer chip should play that sad piano music they always played at the end of the TV show.

There might have been a Deep Thought by Jack Handey that had something like that. Those things are deeply embedded in my psyche.

I just did some Google-Fu, and there is a Deep Thought just like it --- Quote: # I think a good novel would be where a bunch of men on a ship are looking for a whale. They look and look, but you know what? They never find him. And you know why they never find him? It doesn't say. The book leaves it up to you, the reader, to decide. Then, at the very end, there's a page you can lick and it tastes like Kool-Aid. I had all three books and read them until they fell apart in the early 90's. http://www.adelepham.com/deepthoughts/handy.htm
