Watching it now... I'm wondering if my prediction about the final fate of Donna will come true.

My prediction last year was:
Spoiler: show
that Donna and her family would be revealed as Time Lords.

Wow. The last bit was very, very cool. John Simm did a bang up job. Once I saw what the Master was doing I thought it was a bit weird and then the final few scenes happened ..

Spoiler: show
I was wondering when they'd make it back.

I love the fact that, while Simm's performance is purely his own, I can so easily picture Delgado's or Ainley's face delivering all his lines.

And when I wonder where these weird-ass superpowers come from, I realize that this is the same guy who was Raisin-Man, part cat, and a glob of slime who took over Julia Roberts' brother.

I was surprised first of all...
Spoiler: show
to see Timothy Dalton's face, but once I did, I knew that the Time Lords were back, although I didn't know how (and still don't).

But Russell T. Davies, in the extended look thing BBC-A aired afterward...
Spoiler: show
acted like the Time Lords return was a bad thing and moreover was surprised anyone would think otherwise.

Not real happy that they...
Spoiler: show
appear to have killed Donna Noble, the only human other than Gramps not to get Master-ized

And of course...
Spoiler: show
no US president would make a speech on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day unless there was a disaster of major proportions.

But I give Doctor Who a pass on that last one.

I will be excited to see this next week, but I won't get to watch it until Sunday night.

He does have a history of extreme body modification.

I took the Doctor's explanation that
Spoiler: show
the Master's container was broken to mean that the cellular energy that accomplishes regeneration was leaking and that's what all the blast energy and leaping was about.

I kind of like the touch thrown in that
Spoiler: show
no particular manifestation of the Doctor looks forward to ending and regards the differing versions of himself as other people.

The DVR cut the very end off, but since I recorded the Inside Look I caught the very end of the last scene.
Spoiler: show
The Timelords are back? Gallifrey possibly as well? Can this really be good for The Doctor? I must admit, I liked Timothy Daltons brief appearance in part 1...

I'm going to have to check to see if BBC America on Demand has it so I don't have to scream at the end of the episode when me and the GF watch it(since I said I'd wait until she got back from Amarillo on Sunday to watch it)... :shush:

I had the reverse reaction. Seeing The Master turn in Goku, Mr. Creosote, Gollum and Jamie Madrox in turn was really bizarre. Not really the elegant villain from the classic series. I did like the conversation between the Doctor and Bernard Cribbins. It was something we've had hints of before.

Calling back to Steven's point earlier, I'm sure Russell Davies has been screwing with us for a while now...
Spoiler: show
..."Wilfred Mott" anagrams out to "Time Lord -- WTF?" or "Time Lord FTW!"

What a long, strange trip it's been.

Cant wait to see Donna's fathers chameleon watch. That will be a mind blowing moment. Then he turns into Romana. WTF.

That would be awesome.

Saw the first installment last night, so just skimming the thread as of yet. I may have to jump the gun and download the second episode. The suspense is killing me. The build up in Water of Mars where the Doctor goes mad was terrific. Makes you understand how close he and the Master really are.

Does the Master carry the heart of the Time Lords in his head? That would explain why he is mad.

i hate the things that RTD does that effects the whole planet in his big season enders. it requires such a deus ex machina that (for me) it tends to rob the show(s) of any real power. Turning The Master into a power beam shooting foe was lame (for me).

Seeing Dalton, and the others was awesome, and nearly redeems the preposterous characterization of Simms' role.

ymmv.

The power beam shooting part makes him look like he is burning up/out. That plus the skeleton/hunger thing makes me think he is not going to last long.
