It's nice to see them arranged by month like that.

I've loved his DC time machine for years. For my personal "golden age" I have short boxes with tabs for the years and months, so I can simulate the same feel.

This is great. Thanks, Robert! Mike's DC site has been invaluable.

I kind of like the cover to Iron Man that month.

But yeah... that was a bad year.

It always amazes me how cheaply you could have had an amazing run of comics back in the day.

The first ten years of Marvel books went for a total of $75 at cover price.

The entire Silver Age of Marvel for $130.

Heh.

I bought the Incredible Hulk that month (and every month). I believe that was the only Marvel series I was collecting at that time.

I was collecting Fantastic Four at the time. Might have been my only book.

I was buying Vertigo and Indie titles. About the only Marvel I was picking up around then would have been Generation X. Got it for the Chris Bachalo art, never even attempted to read it.

I didn't collect PAD Hulk until college - I got the whole run over time at my LCS.

Ah!

Actually, I'm remembering now that right around that time (summer-fall of 1995) I came very close to dropping it. The crap Liam Sharpe art and the meandering, pointless stories (Man-Thing) ... it was the worst the series had ever been. But I stuck with it because they announced the Leader was coming back. (Which turned out to suck as well, but it was enough to get me over that horrible patch without dropping the book completely.)

Liam Sharp got a lot better! So did Mike Deodato - his few issues around then were horrendous.

I like the Deodato issues a lot -- they were a huge step up from Angel Medina before him. And he illustrated a Hulk/Hercules one-shot from around that time that was gorgeous.

I think Liam Sharpe's stuff still sucks too.

I guess what I'm saying is I disagree on both counts. :)

Most of Deodato's work was farmed out to his studio and it shows. I like his newer stuff MUCH better.

It's the opposite for Gary Frank. I think his Hulk work was the best of his career. I don't know what he's doing with his modern-day style, but I hate it.

Did you read the Hulk/Hercules he did with PAD? That art was dynamite, I thought.

His last three issues he did with PAD, 451-453, I dug a lot as well (although not as much Hulk/Herc).
