stevef had posted a lot of information on these over at the Ice board. I can't remember if he had posted the information over here or not. They are coming out and the track listings have been revealed (if I'm recalling correctly).

Rhino Charts David Crosby's 'Voyage'

By Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
September 8, 2006

David Crosby's five-decade career will be the subject of the boxed set "Voyage," due Nov. 21 via Rhino. The same day, the label will also release a CD/DVD edition of Crosby's 1971 solo debut, "If I Could Only Remember My Name."

The first disc of "Voyage" begins with three tracks from Crosby's stint in the Byrds, including the classic "Eight Miles High." It proceeds onto enduring tracks from his collaboration with Graham Nash, Stephen Stills and Neil Young, such as "Guinnevere," "Almost Cut My Hair" and "Long Time Gone."

Disc two anthologizes the nine albums Crosby released between 1977 and 2004, highlighted by the CSNY track "Compass," which chronicles the artist's long battle with substance abuse. Also featured are five songs from Crosby's band CPR, which finds him flanked by his son, James Raymond.

Sixteen previously unreleased tracks can be found on the third disc, including demos for "Deja Vu," "Long Time Gone" and "Triad," alternate mixes of "Homeward Through The Haze" and "Cowboy Movie" and a jam with Jerry Garcia, "Kids and Dogs." Nash, Bonnie Raitt, Melissa Etheridge and Byrds members Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman contribute to the liner notes.

"Kids and Dogs" can also be found on the new "If I Could Only Remember My Name," which is offered in a 5.1 Surround Sound mix on the DVD alongside photos and rare video clips.

from amazon.com--

He's always received second billing to Stephen Stills in Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and once played third fiddle to Roger McGuinn and Gene Clark in the Byrds, but there is no doubt that David Crosby is one of the true originals of a folk-rock style that has paralleled his 40-year career, which is celebrated on this three-disc set of hits and near misses, demos, and outtakes. The first two CDs run chronologically, from the Byrds' "Eight Miles High" (which Crosby co-wrote) through his '70s and '80s solo records to "Through Here Quite Often," from his 2004 album with Graham Nash. Crosby was the draftsman of the transcendental harmonies that defined both of his bands, his plaintive vocals generally serving as a complement to the others'. But he takes the lead on this 52-song collection's greatest moments: his chilling falsetto on "Music Is Love" (from his 1971 debut solo release); a call out to his dying mother on "Carry Me" (1975's Wind on the Water, with Nash), and "Yvette in English," a 1993 collaboration with Joni Mitchell (Thousand Roads). Some selections swing and miss--"Hero," co-written with Phil Collins in 1993, and a few recorded in the late '90s with CPR, featuring his son James Raymond--but Voyage recuperates with disc three's 16 previously unreleased tracks. The jewel? "Cowboy Movie," a 10:57 opus from 1970 featuring both Neil Young and Jerry Garcia on lead guitar. --Scott Holter

David Crosby's first solo album "If I Could Only Remember My Name", will be re-released on November 6.

Stephen Barncard (who recorded and mixed the original IICORMN album, and remixed the new release) to 4waysite.com: "There are two separate media in the package. The CD is comprised of the original stereo mixes of IICORMN with bonus track 'Kids And Dogs'. The DVD-A contains new surround mixes made by me. The surround is presented in several formats, just to make sure it can be played in any player."

All in all the box looks good, but they could easily have filled up the third disc with outtakes and album tracks. I can't imagine I'll be playing disc 3 a lot with all those demos on it. I'm surprised he's already on to his third book of memoirs!

renny,
You probably already own everything released by Crosby, so the demos would obviously be of greater value to you.

I noticed that Crosby neglected to include "Lay Me Down", the most popular track from the most recent Crosby*Nash 2cd set.
In fact, he only included *one* track from that album ("Through Here Quite Often"), even though there was easily room on the set to include more. "Lay Me Down" should have been on there.

The remaster of Crosby's If I Could Only Remember My Name is due out next Tuesday, November 6.

Being less of a Crosby fan than some of you, I would have preferred a midline-priced IICORMN remaster without the DVD. I'm sure if I wait a while, it'll be re-reissued that way.

You may be right.

I certainly don't expect this CD/DVD release to be on sale anywhere in the stores.
I would consider it to be a much more obscure release as compared to the new Who CD. The album isn't all that long, and even with a DVD, I wouldn't pay a high price on this.

But it would be great if somebody (BB, CC... ) had a $9.99 price for it.

Just got both of these today. They really were treated with great care. The Voyage box set is really cool. It is like a square oversized book. The 3 discs all unfold from within the " box" Nice booklet with pictures and commentary.... Can't wait to listen. IICORMN also ahas great packaging with track by track comments and new pictures, etc..... 2 disc set with the 2nd disc looking great for 5.1 and High Res enthusiasts..

If I may ask...

Where did you find both of these releases?

I haven't seen the IICORMN remaster anywhere, at any store over the last week. And I still haven't come across Crosby's Voyage boxset today.
(I went to BB and CC.)

Thanks...
Steve

Hi Steve. There is a local shop in town called Ross 's Records and all the new releases that I look for are usually out of the mainstream, so I tell the owner what I need and he places an order to have them on hand for me on release day. I also got the Plant box set and have The Doors set being held for me. Never will probably find these just walking into a " chain " store...

I picked up both of these Crosby titles at Borders today. I am surprised to read that someone was actually able to purchase the Voyages box at Best Buy. I went there first for the Beatles Love CD + DVD. I also picked up the U218 Singles regular edition and 2 copies of the Simon and Garfunkel box @ $19.99 ($4 a replica sleeved album!). It never occurred to me to look for David Crosby material in its first week of release.

I verified after midnight last night that Borders would have IICORMN. Three of the four Borders stores I can get to in Houston had them in stock (but not the store less than 2 miles away!).

I had a birthday coupon (15%) to cut the price as well as $21 rewards program Christmas bonus to spend, so I went for it. The largest Borders in Houston got one copy of IICORMN. I bought it. They hadn't put Voyages on the floor yet but got me one from the back with a smile.

Great news that had eluded me prior to purchase - the stereo hi rez version is 192k/24bit.

As an artistic decision they chose to make the 5.1 mix a 5.0 (no LRE) mix instead. Got 12" woofers or better in your main speakers? You will need them or a path through your components to access your subwoofer with the L&R signals. There is low information but it isn't delivered separately.

It sounds like I didn't enjoy the disc. The opposite is true. I played around with my options, and listened to the entirety of both the 2 channel and 5 channel mixes. I finished my afternoon with all 81 minutes of Love from George Martin and the Beatles. I had a blast this afternoon!

Oh and for the other thread contributor who was dismayed with the Voyages track selection. He or she wondered why Crosby would make those choices. Well, cut him a break. The box was produced by Joel Bernstein and Graham Nash, not David Crosby. Blame Graham and Joel if you don't like the tracks they chose.

Finally, I was completed dumbfounded by the sound of the tracks on U2's Singles disc. Either they did separate singles mixes that I was unaware of, or the sound of these songs has been completely redone! What is there is astonishingly clear and present. However many of the background instrumental effects that defined these songs for me seem to be mixed way back - I talking about the Edge's churning guitar in some spots, string section sounds in others.

Does anyone know what's happening with this disc? Are these the video soundtracks?

Enough.
Happy listening!

What is Borders' price on the Crosby Voyage box?

I see Deep Discount CD has a price of $33.98 (+ $2.59 shipping) for the Voyage box, which is the best price I've come across.

But I would rather pick this up from a store if I can find a comparible price.

Many thanks if anyone can reveal the best price on this one...

Steve

Tom Grady,
I didn't blame David Crosby, but the compilers. I'm happy for Crosby that this box is being released and I plan on buying it, I just think Crosby would have been better served with more outtakes and album tracks from his long career.
