Last week was the LA scene.....this week, we travel up the coast to Haight Ashbury and The Summer Of Love.

All of the essentials are hopefully here. Santana is not on the list (as CSN shouldn't have been last week) as only their 1st album was in 1969....same with It's A Beautiful Day. Country Joe & The Fish were from Southern California.

A vote for the Steve Miller Band is for their early psychedelic/blues period (Children Of The Future/Sailor/Brave New World)....before he reinvented himself as an AOR artist. Don't vote based on Fly Like An Eagle/Jet Airliner/Jungle Love etc.
-----
Next week, I may try New York City 60s.....it's a little harder to compile a list...esp. since Bob Dylan wouldn't be included.

My collection includes more of the Airplane than any other act listed, but I ended up voting for S&TFS. Chocolate Watchband were strong contenders, too.

Love CCR (who I voted for) but I suspect the Dead will take this.

I love the Airplane, but CCR's 60s output is one of the most astonishing creative outbursts in R&R history, so they get my vote.

I can't decide whether it's Sly & the Family Stone or Jefferson Airplane. Santana were formed in '66 and recorded two CD's worth of material before the official '69 debut on Columbia.

CCR and Santana were better bands, but nobody defines the 60's San Francisco sound for me like the Airplane.

1. Airplane (by a mile, no one could touch the Airplane at there peak)
2. Dead (to me the Dead peaked in the 70's, though there was some quality work in the late 60's also)
3. Big Brother/Janis
4. Santana
5. Country Joe & The Fish
6. Quicksilver Messenger Service

I didn't know CCR were a SF act. I just realized I know almost nothing about them! But they're my favorite on the list.

Stephen Stills and Richie Furay were almost on this list. They were leaving LA for SF when they ran into Neil Young and Bruce Palmer and decided to form Buffalo Springfield.

I voted for Creedence, and for the reason Jimbo stated.
I also like Quicksilver & the Airplane. I didn't like the Grateful Dead back then, but I've slowly come to appreciate them now.

Creedence Clearwater Revival, baby!

Runners up are Jefferson Airplane, Santana, and Sly & the Family Stone.

I still can't choose between Sly and Airplane, might have to abstain from voting altogether.

I finally decided on Jefferson Airplane. Sly & the Family Stone a close second, though.

Lou Reed's favorite SF act is Moby Grape. In fact, it's the only classic SF band that he likes.

Moby Grape -Out of the albums five I have I only listen to the debut,I don't think they were consistently that good...No mention of 50 Foot Hose as anyone's favourite yet.

Somehow the only Grape I've ever heard is the song Omaha. There guitarist jerry Miller lives in the same city I fo 7 gigs around town, but I've never seen him (I'm told i should). I'm just not into bars these days.....

Yeah Omaha....I think that's the one where at the beginning of the song the sound comes out of each speaker alternately. Is Jerry Miller a peculiar sight to behold these days then, considering people say you should see him?.It wouldn't surprise me that some of these cats are a little on the eccentric side in later age, considering what they may have ingested in the past.

No, he's considered to be a killer blues player. I have a grey area dvd of one of his local shows, Only watched a few minutes a year or 2 ago, but he did seem to be a strong player.

Omaha is the single where the hook is "Listen My Friend" sung repeatedly.
