This year's HOF list.....

Roberto Alomar, Kevin Appier, Harold Baines, Bert Blyleven, Ellis Burks, Andre Dawson, Andres Galarraga, Pat Hentgen, Mike Jackson, Eric Karros, Ray Lankford, Barry Larkin, Edgar Martinez, Don Mattingly, Fred McGriff, Mark McGwire, Jack Morris, Dale Murphy, Dave Parker, Tim Raines, Shane Reynolds, David Segui, Lee Smith, Alan Trammell, Robin Ventura, Todd Zeile

Article - http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4693591

If I had a vote, I'd probably sumbit an empty ballot.

I know Alomar will likely get in......but he was a total dog with the Mets.
The other better choices are (in my opinion), great, but just miss the top level, and/or compilers.
McGriff is a compiler. Blyleven as well....plus he's comparable to Tommy John and John didn't make it.
Morris was very good, but don't like the 3.90 ERA.
Larkin.....maybe....I think he's one of those just miss, but his numbers are decent for shortstops.
No to Martinez and Baines....don't like DHs only players.

Kevin Appier? David Segui? Todd Zeile?
Will Steve Traschel and Bernard Gilkey be on next year's ballot?

Andre Dawson has a chance. Alomar may have been a first ballot HOFer but his time with the Mets hurts him.

All I know is that is Travis Fucking Jackson can get into the Baseball Hall Of Fame, Alan Trammell should have been inducted on his first ballot.

(Good topic to begin the 2010 baseball thread, so I've split the above posts off from the end of the 2009 thread.)

Well, I like Blyleven, but I don't like his chances.

I will (probably) go to the Citi Field in 2010.

I think Jack Morris has a better chance. A great post-season pitcher!

Very slow in the Free Agent market to date. I'd like to think it's fiscal sanity due to the dreadful economy, but I doubt it. More like everyone's waiting to see who moves first.
The Phillies signing of Juan Castro does NOT qualify!

The big question will be.....where does Halladay go?

I agree. That and the fact that his last few years were not good may keep him out, at least for a while.I'm with Charles on the idea that I wouldn't vote for anyone this year. Several guys are close but I don't think any of them are really Hall of Famer's.

Whoever gets Halladay, whether it be the Yankees, Mets, Phillies or Boston, is gonna be real strong. Since these teams have an ace already.

Then there's that little thing about purposely giving AIDS and biting some crazy chick. Whatever happened with that? Was that a bunch of crap or did it have some validity? I hope not.

The accuser withdrew the suit. There was no talk of a settlement.
Halladay, by the way, is probably going to Boston. I don't think the Mets have enough to get him. The Phillies might if they're interested, but the Red Sox are the favorite.

Don Mattingly belongs in the hall. I know his lifetime stats are borderline, but for a few years there he was the best hitter in baseball, and one of the best hitters ever. Pretty decent with the glove, too.

HALL OF FAME :
Bert Blyleven belongs in the HOF . He is right up there in K's , IP , I think he has 283 wins . It is long overdue but look how long it took Jim Rice . He also had one of the best curveballs in the game .
Alomar should not get voted in just for the spitting incident.(and he sucked as a Met)
Barry Larkin - yes
Lee Smith - a BIG YES one of the all time great relievers

and Ron Santo ?

2010 :
The NY Mets better do something this off season . Give me Halladay , Lackey and Holliday ! ! !
Blalock or Nick Johnson for 1st base , forget Delgado
As far as the pitching goes , resign Putz , why not Harden
Go with the same catchers.
What do you Mets fans think ?

I think this is going to be another disappoointing offseason.....whether because of Madoff or not, there's already signs that they're not going to spend much money...and search the scrap heap for free agents.

Halliday will never come here.....the Mets only have a shot at someone if the Skanks or Red Sox don't want them.....which is what happened with Santana. Lackey will probably go to the Skanks too.
I don't want Holliday.....still think despite what he did in STL, he was a product of Coors Field. I think he would be a bust here...esp. with Citi Field. I'd rather have Bay....but that won't happen either.

Blalock I might risk...they're looking to platoon 1B with Murphy for 1 year...then hopefully Ike Davis is for real.

Schneider is gone (Thank God)...probably Bengie Molina with Santos as backup.

Forget Putz...he had a lousy attitude about pitching the 8th inning before he got hurt.

I have no idea what they end up doing....but I think we're a 4th place team again, no matter what. Philly, Atlanta and Florida are going to be much better.

I have to disagree here. The save has become the biggest bullshit statistic in baseball. We can blame Tony LaRussa using Dennis Eckersley for the easy come in the 9th inning, bases empty save.

If Lee Smith is a Hall of Famer, so is someone like John Franco....and I watched enough Mets games to know better.

It's because of the easiness to compile saves that it took people like Sutter and Gossage a long time to get in the Hall...despite when they came in to save games, they were actually getting out of jams.....but of course, they didn't have nearly the save totals of Smith, Franco, Jeff Reardon etc.

If I had a ballot, I'd probably never vote any modern day closers in the HOF.....aside from Mariano Rivera.
