Hey Roger,

Although I rarely buy new comics, I love buying back issues. On this paycheck, I'm making an order for a bunch of Superman-related titles from key moments in my life (generally I wasn't reading Superman at those times, so they'll be brand new to me). For example, I'm grabbing the ones that came out the month I was born (May 1970).

I'm also ordering the Superman titles from when I moved from the East Coast to the big city of Toronto back in Feb '92. I'm including the Jan. issues in the order since there was a big cross-over event happening at the time, written by a bunch of people, including my favorite Avengers writer, Roger Stern :)

Uber genius Brainiac takes over Warworld and begins piloting the massive planet-sized satellite towards Earth on a mission of annihilation. In need of help, Superman recruits an army of super-powered beings to retard Warworld's destructive progression while a second battalion of heroes battle against an armada of alien invaders on Earth. But as the war rages on and casualties increase, even the combined strength of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Deathstroke (yeah, that's right, Deathstroke), and the rest of the heroes may not be enough to the save the world against this unstoppable menace.

So, I was thinking...

1) Any interesting memories or anecdotes about this arc?
2) How does a group of writers co-ordinate writing an event like this? It seems like it would be an editorial hassle having multiple writers handling the same character when the story isn't continuing into the other author's book, let alone something like this! :-D
3) Is this the same Warworld as in that great Jim Starlin trilogy in DC Comics Presents in 1980?
4) Not a question, but cool beans picking a title from the old George Reeves series

I loved Panic in the Sky - still one of the best DC Events ever - and it was limited to the Superman titles! That DCCP arc is the highlight of that entire series.

I totally agree. Those, the various Garcia-Lopez issues and the Alan Moore Swamp Thing issue.

Just that it was a lot of fun. And I got to write Captain Marvel and the Forever People -- however briefly -- in the same issue.

We'd already worked out the broad strokes of the story in one of our annual Superman-Summits. And everybody -- writers and artists -- got copies of each others' work in progress. In those pre-wired days, DC made FedEx very happy.

Sort of. It was the post-Crisis version of Warworld -- and of Mongul -- that we had previously introduced during the Superman in Exile storyline.

Thanks. We were all big fans of George, Phyllis, Noel, Jack, John, and Robert.

As I recall, we'd come up with the story as a possible crossover event for that year...but none of the other editors were interested in playing. So we did it ourselves.

It's right up there.

And let's not forget the Len Wein/Joe Kubert Demon issue!
