I have an idea for a horror anthology ala Tales From The Crypt, Creepy, House Of Mystery, etc. comics from days gone by, in which a creepy host with a sense of humor narrates spooky stories with twist endings. I'm thinking 8 pages a story, four stories an issue.

Tentative Title: Tales From The Black Tomb.

Tentative Hostess: Scheherazade, an hot Arabian Nights-style harem gal, who's also a vampire and very femme fatale. (Perhaps she's telling these stories to the long-dead corpse of the Persian King?)

Knowing me, I'll be to lazy to actually draw these up. But I'm having such a fun time coming up with stories that I want to encourage myself, so I'm going to be posting plot ideas in this thread.

Story 1:

A hunter comes to a small village in the Louisiana swamplands. He'd come here once before, as a child with his father. On that trip, an amphibious frog/man creature killed his father. Now he's come back as an adult to hunt and kill the creature that did it.

When he arrives, the villagers are very friendly to him, but try to talk him out of hunting the mythical creature. He has poor luck hunting, but better luck in love as he falls for a beautiful village girl.

Eventually, he does find and kill the creature - but once dead, it transforms into the girl he's fallen in love with. Suddenly other townsfolk (pitchforks and torches in hand) appear and drag him back to the village to stand trial. During the trial it is revealed that all the villagers are also these frog-creatures, and that the frog creature that killed his dad was put on trial and executed in some horrific manner for his father's murder immediately after the event. The story ends with the hunter found guilty, and the villagers, now frogmen, dragging the hunter towards the same horrible execution that his father's murderer experienced.

One of the stories that didn't end up making it to Pitched! would have fit right in on this. An eight-page horror story not unlike those Tales From the Crypt stories; sort of a heavy-handed moral lesson with a twist. And, of course, the undead.

If you feel like sharing it (via post or PM), I'd love to read the script. I've been been bitten by quite the horror comic bug since I started getting all those Ditko Charlton comics.

My next one is my token Blues story - a bit of a Lovecraftian take on the old "sell your soul to the devil at the crossroads" deal. I'm kinda proud of this one and was going to submit it to Weird Tales as a prose short story, but got stagefright by reading the competition
