It's one of the greatest films ever made.

I believe the remake in 1988 is way underrated, especially be certain critics who seem to think that ANY horror movie not directed by Hitchcock must be bad:

What I like about this film is that the characters seem real, and the movie doesn't follow the "rules" about who is supposed to live and who is supposed to die.
In Independence Day, they went to ridiculous lengths to save a dog. In this film,
Spoiler: show
you see a kid eaten by The Blob.
I highly recommend this!

The 88 Blob was filmed right outside of my hometown.

Another thing about critics... they hate remakes. It's virtually automatic.

I think most critics panned Brian DePalma's remake of Scarface when it came out. Maybe that's still true for critics, but for many fans, this film and not the James Cagney movie has become the "classic" Scarface.

Speaking of remakes, while I don't think it's considered to be a classic film (although I think Jeff Goldblum should have been nominated for Best Actor), the remake of The Fly was better than the original and actually had a scarier premise.

I hated Scarface (Pacino version). Boring as all get-out. The original is great though. The Fly is the opposite for me. I'm one of the few who like the remake better. (Best Actor? Really? Eddie, you're way too easy on actors, or too blinded by movies you like to be objective).

I'm not necessarily saying Goldblum should have won, but in my opinion his performance still should have warranted a Best Actor nomination. I think it may be the best performance of his career.

And if you are referring to The Dark Knight, I'm not the only one who admired Heath Ledger's performance. What I argued is that there can be more than one lead actor in a film, and Ledger's performance---which had MORE screen time than Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs---should have been nominated for best lead actor rather than supporting. There was nothing supporting about the role.

I'm not referring to Dark Knight, Eddie, although that's the time I started noticing the trend.

But since you brought it up, Ledger won a well-deserved best supporting actor award, for playing the supporting role of the Joker in the Batman movie starring Christian Bale.
