The Bee Gees are celebrating their 50th anniversary with a pair of special releases to honor the singing siblings. A four-disc box set, Mythology, features a disc spotlighting each Gibb brother, including one dedicated to Andy, who was not part of the group but worked with his brothers, Barry, Robin, and Maurice.
The Ultimate Bee Gees: The 50th Anniversary Collection is a two-disc set of the group's hits along with their performances of songs they wrote for others. A deluxe edition includes a DVD of previously unreleased footage. Both sets will be released November 3.
Note: the Ultimate Bee Gees compilation is still scheduled for November 3, 2009, and has its own separate discussion thread here. The Mythology box set, below, has been pushed back to November 16, 2010. — Linda

The previous box was good enough for me. Ditto the 2 CD The Record.

While I'll reserve judgment on the 2-disc set until I know the "previously unreleased" content on the DVD, I couldn't be more excited about the box set; this looks like a nice companion/upgrade to the TALES FROM THE BROTHERS GIBB box. But, boy, this is turning into quite the costly fall for box sets: Woodstock, Big Star, Rod, LA Nuggets & now the Bee Gees, all from Rhino. Then throw in the Beatles box sets, and this is the most exciting period for these kinds of collections in a long, long while.
Now is it too much to ask that Rhino continue the studio album reissues for the Bee Gees....?!?

Yes, apparently. Those should have come WAY before the boxes and compilations...or WAY after.

It never made sense to me to release a comp and a boxed set on the same day, so this makes sense to me.

Disc 4 all-Andy? Interesting move. But what the hell is it with "All I Have to Do Is Dream" which was his last charting single? It's not on any of Andy Gibb's compilations. Does it have something to do with singing partner Victoria Principal?

I really hate when these comps go for feel instead of chronology. "Too Much Heaven" into "First of May"??? I hear that train a-comin'...

Both of these new Bee Gees sets are a little strange. Because their music has changed so much over the years, it really should be ingested chronologically. I have the original "Tales From the Brothers Gibb" and my only complaint is that is loses steam with the live tracks on disc 4. Remove those and add the more current stuff and you have a perfect set in my opinion.
A whole disc of Maurice? Yikes. "On Time" is a lost gem, but I see his disc as just taking away space for more good Barry & Robin tracks.

Total agreement. They obviously must have heard how great Kiss' Ikons set went over and decided to go the same 1-disc-per-member route!

Barry & Robin were on Jimmy Fallon Tuesday and Fallon had a copy of it and it was called the Bee Gees Anthology, not Mythology if I'm not mistaken. Looked like a book when Fallon opened it up.

They didn't say anything about a more sensible release date, did they? Seems kinda weird Fallon would have even a mock-up of a product not due out for another eight months...
