Let's be honest with ourselves, folks. Iron Man's armor was never better than it was in his first appearance, when he was wearing a clunky grey wood-burning stove.
That sleek armor you all know and love through which Tony Stark's muscles can inexplicably be seen? Bah!
That stupid Transformers-meet-Voltron junk he cruises around in these days? Bah!
Tony Stark belongs in a stove piping and a tin barrel. Period. Anything less would be uncivilized.

Do a full Steam Punk Marvel U and you may have a good basis for a pitch, Ian.

Honest to god, Iron Man would make an AWESOME steampunk character.
Why isn't there a Steampunk version of the Marvel universe?
Ian, start drawing.

Eric, the answer to your original question is in the thread about Ant Man and Wasp: if you're a crazy smart scientist, do you create and armor that looks like it descended from a pot-bellied stove? or something sleek and cool that'll get you more chicks?

I said it in another thread and I'll repeat it here.
Gene Colan was the best Iron Man armour ever.

What do I need chicks for when I have my own mobile stove?
Did think of that, didja, smart guy?

I keep telling you people, those weren't smokestacks!
He stole Cable's shotguns.

You know, I wasn't lying when I started this thread. I think that initial armor is pretty awesome. I honestly do. It's got a great look, reminding me of something that I can't quite place my finger on. Love it.
Also, the Marvel Steampunk thing is genius. Let's hope Joe Quesada reads IMWAN and steals the idea, because I'd love to see it.

The Classic Red and Gold he wore in the 70's is the only armor he should have...
The clunky grey armor looked like he was wearing a garbage can for a costume and was esthetically unappealing in every way....
Sorry but no....

My lovely wife Tracey thinks he never should have gotten rid of the grey armour. Personally, I like the Ditko-designed, horned helmet look. And, of course, you can NEVER go wrong with the "nose helmet" of the mid seventies!

I love 'em all!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...well, okay, not the diesel-engine Heroes Reborn one so much...or the Modular Armour...That SKIN stuff just seemed odd...in fact, all the armour designs around that 'teen Tony' storyline I'm not a fan of...or the silver stealth suit...or the hyper-gravity one...or the ThorBuster armour...

He does read IMWAN, but just for the food talk.

That clunky gray thing looks far more like a transformer than anything he's worn since.

Nah, the gray clunker design is much unlike the geometric stylings of transformers - more cylindrical, rather. The gray design, first seen on the TOS #39 cover, originated as a concept sketch by Kirby which did feature a pointy, bullet helmet and skirt thingie.

Gotta agree with Mr. Lund on this one.
Sorry, President Taft.
