Taken from the comments on this blog posting: http://ifdestroyed.blogspot.com/2009/10 ... logan.htmlIt began when someone said this: "Mark Millar is the Michael Bay of comics." Which was a pretty good one to start with, I thought. This led to: "Would Alan Moore be Kubrick?" Not bad. Then: " I think Chris Claremont would be Spielberg. His best work, way back when, revolutionised the medium in the mainstream, and though his more recent productions have been uneven, they are still appreciated by his more dedicated fans." Makes sense. A later poster put Claremont with George Lucas, which I can also see. (The two of them even co-wrote some novels.) More and more followed: " Bendis could be Mamet ... " "Neil Gaiman being the Tim Burton of Comics is probably too on the nose, but it kind of fits." " Grant Morrison is Terry Gilliam " "Bill Sienkiewicz is probably an illustrator/writer/comics-creator who is a good corollary to David Lynch." "Jeph Loeb = Ewe Boll." "Warren Ellis = David Cronenberg" "Frank Miller = Quentin Tarantino" "Brubaker or maybe Rucka for Scorsese " "Will Eisner - Orson Welles:" "Stan Lee = Frank Capra" "Steve Ditko = Alfred Htchcock" "Matt Fraction = Joel and Ethan Coen" "Peter Milligan = Wes Anderson" And appropriately, the last comment in the thread: " Kinda figured Rob Liefeld would be Ed Wood." I have to say, I like a LOT of the comparisons made above. What do you guys think? Any that you would add/change?

I think Spielberg would actually be Byrne.

That would work, especially if Claremont is Lucas.

Joe Kubert = Alfred Hitchcock.
And Gaiman can actually tell a story, so he's not exactly Tim Burton. Todd McFarlane is more the Tim Burton.

The problems come when you examine the analogies too closely.
Neither Byrne, Claremont, nor Miller are capable of producing a comic-book equivalent of "Munich" or "Catch Me If You Can".

Besides, what kind of twit looks at analogies in that way, anyway?

(And being non-legendary puts him closr to Claremont in my mind.) And one thing about Lucas and Claremont is that the latter day versions of both are stuck dipping into the same damn well forevermore, rather than creating anything new. (Claremont even went back to his original run and added new scenes to each issue, years before Lucas was doing similar things.) It works pretty well to me, even though I despise Lucas and love Claremont.

If you take some letters away from "Hitchcock," you get "Hitco," and that rhymes with "Ditko." That's probably where that one comes from.

I guess "legendary" puts him up on a pedestal in my mind, and it seems incongruous. The man who created Jar Jar Binks -- A Legend In His Own Time!!!

I nodded at almost all of the examples given, including the counter-examples.
I'm not sure about Mark Millar and Michael Bay. I think Mark Millar is more like Paul Verhoevan. There's more of a knowing shtick in the sensationalism. A use of the over-the-top in a way that constantly flirts with the line between P.T.Barnum and Tarantino. Michael Bay I don't think is in on the joke.

Michael Bay = Rob Liefeld. Not in on the joke, and wouldn't care anyway.

Your opinion of Millar is higher than mine. I think this has come up before.
I suppose you're right, though. Maybe it should be Todd McFarlane = Michael Bay.
