Jack White's band The Dead Weather are halfway through recording their second album.

Frontwoman Alison Mosshart, who is also the singer in The Kills, said the follow-up to recently-released debut 'Horehound' could be completed before the year is out.

"In between now and Christmas I'm going to go back to [White's studio in] Nashville at some point. I think I'll spend most of December in America and finish the second record. So there will be more," she told Radio 1's Newsbeat.

"They [the songs] sound great. I really like them," she added. "We've been playing three or four of them onstage, so they keep changing all the time."

With the band set to kick off their UK tour on October 19, the singer added she had been stunned by how much The Dead Weather have achieved in 2009.

"The last year has been incredible," she said. "I never knew it was going to go like this. We never planned to be a band. Certainly I didn't think we'd be so busy and that things would go so well."

The Dead Weather's Jack White has revealed that their new album will be out in April.

Talking to Australian radio station Triple J, White gave an update on the progress of the record.

"The Dead Weather are finishing recording the last couple of songs," White said. "I'm going to start mixing in the next two weeks, so yeah it should be out in April."

As for the sound of the album, White added that the record was "bluesier and heavier than we ever thought we could be" and stated that the first new single 'Blue Blood Blues', would see him take on vocal duties, instead of Alison Mosshart.

Heard "Die by the Drop" yesterday on the radio. Liked it a lot...had no idea regarding the pedigree of The Dead Weather...but did jot down the name.

This is my favorite non-White Stripes release from Jack White. Where the first Dead Weather album had a more impromptu, thrown together sound, the new one is much more cohesive. "Hustle and Cuss", "Gasoline", "The Difference Between Us", "I Can't Hear You", "I'm Mad": just some of the great treasures here. Alison Mosshart shines throughout. Excellent stuff!
