Keno was both a radio deejay and radio music director in the 1970s and 1980s. He was an early pioneer in programming what eventually became known as classic rock music. He is considered an expert on the Rolling Stones and started one of the first Rolling Stones fan sites on the Internet. He has written numerous biographies on different rock and blues artists and is also a newspaper columnist and reporter.
