If it's legit, it will definitely get an eventual domestic release.

Interesting developments on the live Nirvana front... NME ran a story on an upcoming "bootleg" DVD entitled Life Takes No Prisoners which features Nirvana's 1992 headline performance at the Reading Festival. This footage has circulated for years, and in fact, there's already a bootleg DVD with the same title. Then two days later, NME ran a story that an officially-sanctioned DVD, Live at Reading, will be released in November, apparently with restored video, 5.1 sound, and other bonus material. Anyone know what the real story is?

And here it is: [bigred]CD[/bigred] Rolling Stone (October 29, 1992) "The staggering energy and intensity radiating from the stage never let up... Cobain's ravaged pop songs coming off like some dream marriage of the Sex Pistols and the Beatles, borne on bracing waves of distorted guitar noise."
Kerrang (October 2003) "Nirvana headlining at Reading in 1992 was something you had to see, and if you didn't see it then it was something you pretended you saw." Product Description NIRVANA'S LEGENDARY NEVER-BEFORE-RELEASED 1992 READING CONCERT
Ranked #1 in Kerrang Magazine's "100 Gigs That Shook The World" and voted as "Nirvana's #1 Greatest Moment" by fans in an NME poll, Nirvana's historic August 30, 1992 headlining appearance at the UK's Reading Festival is one of the most bootlegged concerts in the annals of rock n roll. Now, fans will have an opportunity to own a pristine copy of that entire performance -- color-corrected video from the original film with 5.1 audio sourced from the original multi-track masters. Nirvana Live At Reading will be issued in a limited edition CD+DVD Deluxe Edition as well as DVD-only, CD-only configurations on November 3, 2009, followed by a 2LP version on November 17, 2009.
While the show's centerpiece was a performance of nearly the entire Nevermind tracklist, also noteworthy were early performances of three as yet unrecorded songs which wouldn't be released until 2 years later on In Utero: "All Apologies," "Dumb," and in its first ever public performance, "Tourettes." The career-spanning setlist also reached back to the band's 1989 Sub Pop debut album, Bleach, for "Blew," "About A Girl," "School," "Negative Creep" and first single "Love Buzz," and even further back to the mid-`80s for "Spank Thru." Other songs from the Reading set would appear in studio form on the Incesticide compilation later in the year: "Aneurysm," "Been A Son" and "Sliver." Additionally, the band played a pair of beloved covers by two bands that helped shape the formative Nirvana sound - "The Money Will Roll Right In" by Fang and "D-7" by The Wipers.01 Breed 02 Drain You 03 Aneurysm 04 School 05 Sliver 06 In Bloom 07 Come As You Are 08 Lithium 09 About A Girl 10 Tourettes 11 Polly 12 Lounge Act 13 Smells Like Teen Spirit 14 On A Plain 15 Negative Creep 16 Been A Son 17 All Apologies 18 Blew 19 Dumb 20 Stay Away 21 Spank Thru 22 The Money Will Roll Right In 23 D-7 24 Territorial Pissings http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002MRROKI/?tag=imwan-20

The NME shows different cover art, and also makes mention of a DVD-only version. We'll have to wait and see if those are specific to the UK or will apply to the USA releases as well: Nirvana 'Live At Reading Festival' DVD finally set for official releaseIconic performance will be released this November September 3, 2009 http://www.nme.com/news/nirvana/47122An official DVD and CD release of Nirvana's seminal performance at the Reading Festival in 1992 is set for release on November 2. The package features footage of the performance, which took place on August 30, 1992 and is considered by many to be one of the greatest performances ever at the festival. The CD version of the performance features the setlist (below) minus 'Love Buzz'. CD-only and DVD-only versions of the release will be issued on the same day as the DVD package, while a double 12-inch vinyl version will come out on November 16. The package will be the first official release of the gig, although an unofficial DVD of the performance, entitled 'Life Takes No Prisoners', was released last May.

America will see a CD, DVD, deluxe CD/DVD set and Amazon exclusive box set released on November 3rd, as well as an LP version later on. See a few posts up for pre-order details.

Dave Grohl: 'I thought Nirvana's Reading Festival show would end our career' Drummer predicted the headline gig would be 'a disaster' November 24, 2009 http://www.nme.com/news/nirvana/48543Dave Grohl has said he was convinced that Nirvana's headline appearance at Reading Festival in 1992 would end their career. The performance, footage of which was released on DVD and CD on November 2, saw frontman Kurt Cobain enter the stage in a wheelchair, a reference to his recent stays in rehab to beat his drug addiction. "Kurt had been in and out of rehab, communication in the band was beginning to be strained," Grohl told The Scotsman. Kurt was living in LA, Krist [Novoselic] and I were in Seattle. People weren't even sure if we were going to show up." Grohl added that even he wasn't confident that the band would be able to pull the gig off. "We rehearsed [for Reading] once, the night before, and it wasn't good," he said. "I really thought, 'This will be a disaster, this will be the end of our career for sure.' And then it turned out to be a wonderful show, and it healed us for a little while." Speaking of Nirvana's reputation since Cobain's suicide in 1994, Grohl said he believes the band are misleadingly thought of as gloomy. "It's easy to imagine that we were followed by a black cloud," he explained. "But it wasn't all misery and doom. People know the biography, but it's a little more complicated than that."
