Taking my cue from renny's successful lobbying of Wounded Bird for the Patrick Simmons album, I thought of an album I'd like to see on CD.

How about...Rosetta Stone??

Image

Rosetta Stone was Ian Mitchell's post-Bay City Rollers band in the late '70s. Basically an Irish version of The Rollers. They released their one-and-only album in 1978.

You haven't lived until you've heard their disco version of "Sunshine Of Your Love." And no, I'm not kidding.

The Rosetta Stone album was out on CD in Japan for a short while (early '90s?), along with the Faure-era Rollers albums and the Alan Longmuir solo sessions. Now they're all eBay fodder going for crazy money.

We really need to get every track ever produced by Phil Spector. I know he wasn't much of an album man, but that 4-CD "Back to Mono" box needs a follow-up! And how about the unreleased Beach Boys albums "Smile", "Adult Child", and "Landlocked"? And Brian Wilson's "Sweet Insanity"? And Dennis Wilson's "Bamboo"? And that CSNY album that was never released? And a good remaster of Ike and Tina Turner's "River Deep, Mountain High"?

How about the first cd from Speedy Keen from Thunderclap Newman. It wasn't as good as Hollywood Dream, which is a classic. His second one, You Know Wot I Mean was out for awhile as an import but has long been out of print.

The Cretones first album
Andy Bown - Gone to My Head
Neil Young - Time Fades Away
Dave Clark Five (thanks to the previous input from you all on that) -- Any of 'em
Smith and Gayle McComicks albums (again thanks to another thread for that idea)
Nicky Hopkins' album after Tin Man (forgot the title)
Matthews Southern Comfort - Later That Same Year
I could go on and on.....but would love to see any/all of these!!

Well, I'll repeat myself on the same title whenever this list comes up. I'd really like to see a re-mixed and remastered Gimme Some Neck from Ron Wood. It's a great album marred by one of the most incredibly muddy mixes (courtesy of Roy Thomas-Baker) ever.

This was the band (named for Jerry Riggs, the guitarist) that had the songs "Heartbeat" and "Radar Rider" on the original Heavy Metal soundtrack. Their one and only album was great! Jerry later joined Pat Travers for a while.

I would like to see a reissue of the soundtrack of O Lucky Man, by Alan Price, formerly of the Animals. The cd is available on ebay, but is out of print at least last time I checked. I'm not sure if I would like the cd on its own merits....the songs are used during the film to comment on the characters and scenes...Mr. Price is performing the songs live with a little band and they are quite effective.

The movie is a must see, by the way....a bit weird, but it comes together in the end

Great topic! Here's my "want-list" of LP's I'd like to see reissued:
1)Fallin' In Love(1975)Hamilton,Joe Frank & Reynolds And somebody has to do a better job than that crappy reissue that Renaissance Records did a year ago! Where's Rhino when you need 'em???
2)Electrified Funk(1977)Wild Cherry
3)I Love My Music(1978)Wild Cherry
4)Only the Wild Survive(1979)Wild Cherry
5)Good High(1976-77)Brick
6)Take Me To Your Heaven(1982)Stevie Woods
7)Closeup(1975)Frankie Valli
8)The White Knight(1976)Cledus Maggard & The Citizens Band
9)Disco Baby(1975)Van McCoy
10)Singer Of Songs,Teller Of Tales(1977-78)Paul Davis

Thats a start. Anybody ever see any of these out there???

"Disco Baby" by Van McCoy was reissued in Japan and is a real gem.

The Odd Couple Sings.

If they can get the rights, I'd like to see it expanded to include some of the other "songs" that were on the TV show... "Happy, Peppy, and Bursting With Love," "Laugh, Clown, Laugh," "Stumbling All Around," Felix' tribute to Oscar from the show where Oscar saved his life, and whatever other ones there were that I can't think of right now.

Last year Rhino Handmade put out a deluxe version of Melanie's "Photograph (Double Exposure)"--I'd love to have more vintage Melanie on CD. Two big holes in my Who/Townshend CD collection are the orchestral version of "Tommy" and "Concerts For The People Of Kampuchea"--I'm also waiting for the Who's "2nd Singles Box". LP soundtracks still unreleased on CD include "Get Crazy", and Bob & Doug McKenzie's "Strange Brew" album. Rhino Records has also put out a 2-CD collection of late 60's-early 70's Richard Pryor called "Evolution: Revolution", but there are hours of historic early Pryor stand-up recordings on numerous early 1970's LP's that deserve to be complied and reissued. Let's see...what else...I'd pay top dollar for a super deluxe boxed set entitled "The Complete Lovin' Spoonful", containing all of their original albums in mini-sleeves with the original artwork plus a bonus disc with the live Ed Sullivan Show tracks from the "Happy Together" compliation, the four tracks from the "Almost Grown" EP and the bonus tracks from the 2002 reissues, complete with a 100-page, full color...er...well, I would if there were such a thing--the Spoonful appear to be one of the few bands in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who have never gotten the boxed-set treatment.

Supposedly, the *current* version of Van Morrison's Moondance on WB is a "secret remaster"... done a few years ago. I guess there's an "RM1" on the inner groove of the CD?
Anyway, it sounds good.

Astral Weeks gets all these accolaides over the years and yet... afaik it has not been remastered.

I agree with the earlier post regarding good sounding Beatles remasters. I used to have the Japan EMI box, & no cd yet has equaled it. here's a few more of mine:

1. Wendy Waldman Which Way To Main Street
2. Amboy Dukes Marriage On The Rocks (I know there was a release on Line Germany, but they tend to have awful sound)
3. Annabella Lwin Fever
4. Barry Melton ... The Fish
5. Buddy Miles Live 2 LP
6. Buddy Miles We Got To Live Together
7. Buckingham Nicks
8. Country Joe & The Fish Reunion
9. Dave Mason Is Alive
10. David Bowie 1980 Floor Show (I know this is a boot, but Tony Defries appears to have the master tapes as the version of Time from this was on one of his 90's UK rarities collections in pristine remixed sound quality)
11. David Werner Whizz Kid
12. Wishbone Ash Live Dates 2
13. Duke Ellington - both the 30's & 50's material that Sony doesn't have in print
14. Eric Andersen Be True To You
15. Hometown Band (both albums)
16. Ian Hunter Welcome To The Club (the current UK only issue has AWFUL sound)
17. Neil Young Time Fades Away
18. Rachel Sweet Protect The Innocent
19. Rick Ruskin All 3 Takoma releases
20. Shari Ulrich Long Nights
21. Melanie Gather Me

This was a very quick list pulled off of the LP's in my collection. I have lots more similar wants......

...and a domestic release of the long-missing Graham Nash/David Crosby.
