There's a buzz that this "super group" (of folks I'm not real familiar with) may be really good. Best Buy's going to have it for $7.99 Tuesday 9/22.

Geff meant Monsters Of Folk, not Masters. :) I've added details about this release to his post.

Can't say that I recognized the names either. Checking their particulars on AMG, they all seem to have good credentials. The supergroup concept rarely works out though. This is likely a one shot deal and then I'll have to look up their names again when each of them starts another side project.

I have heard of Oberst from AM Jukebox & liked the 1 song I heard, but haven't heard of the others. For $7.99 I'm tempted to take a plunge, though. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, I think Rolling Stone gave this a really + review.

James is the vocalist for My Morning Jacket, and Oberst (Bright Eyes) and Ward are singer-songwriters well known in alternative circles; Mogis is one of Oberst's regular producers and has done a lot of production work for Oberst's Saddle Creek label. Could be good...

Amazon has now reduced the album to the same price:

No, but you can currently stream the entire album on the band's MySpace page.

Also, Amazon apparently has an exclusive on the vinyl version scheduled to be released October 13.

They're on Conan tonight (I think that was the show) so if you're curious check it out. Can't believe you guys haven't heard of Oberst-he's had a ton of success with Bright Eyes. I can't stand his Emo whining, but kids love him and M. Ward is very popular on the Indie circuit.

Ok, another sign that I'm getting old. Everyone under 40 on the planet seemed to be saying this cd was God's gift to music & in a genre that I'd probably like, so i bought it a few months back.

Played it once, went "MEH" & put it in the to be played a 2nd time pile.

Played the first 3 tracks today. I HATE THIS CD. I have no idea why, but I found myself getting really angry while listening to it. I truly have no idea what irritated me so much about it, all I can guess is the "I'm too old for something this far out of my norm" theory.

But since I don't listen to music to get really angry to where I want to break the cd in half (& it wasn't the lyrics either, I paid no attention to them either way), it's going up for sale by my business.

Just odd that I had such a strong reaction to it.
