Massive Attack collaborator Horace Andy has revealed details of the band's forthcoming new album.

The singer, who regularly features on the duo's records, said the band have recorded three tracks with him so far.

He added: "They send the lyrics for me to learn, I've done three tracks. I never know what they are going to choose, I am supposed to be going up to Bristol very soon.

"Four years now and they haven't come with an album yet, if I was to stick around and wait on Massive, man, oh my God."

The singer also said the pair, who as previously reported on NME.COM are due to appear at this year's Glastonbury Festival, are planning to curate The Meltdown Festival and play a series of UK dates in the summer.

"I'm going on tour with them in June/ July and I think they said they want me with acoustic and blah blah blah... Then I hear them say about The Meltdown," Andy told BBC 6 Music.

The as-yet-untitled album is also due to feature performances from Damon Albarn, TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe former Mazzy Star singer Hope Sandoval and Liz Fraser.

Massive Attack have almost finished new record
But band aren't in a rush to release it

Massive Attack have revealed they're well on the way to finishing their fifth studio album.

The trip-hop band, who released their fourth record '100th Window' back in 2003, said they're not rushing its release though.

Founding member Robert Del Naja, aka 3D, explained: "We've never been in a hurry, that's the way to do it and I think that may have something to do with the fact that we're still around - because obviously we were never meant to hit the star and burn out quickly, it was always meant to be a slow sort of process."

Speaking to bbc.co.uk/6music he added: "You develop as you get older and more mature, and as you change and move through life and experience stuff. Hopefully we’d like to think that that comes out in the music - so do it in your own time is my motto."

Del Naja was secretive about how the new album will sound though, saying: "To be honest, until its mixed I can’t even tell you that and the mix will probably be one of those long, drawn out processes which will probably see us scrap at least half our recording budget in two weeks as we do it all over again!"

Massive Attack's new album 'in a state of flux'
Bristol band admit they've already scrapped two versions of 'LP5'

Massive Attack's Robert '3D' Del Naja has admitted that the band's new album, rumoured to be called 'LP5', is still some way off completion.

Del Naja revealed that the band have already scrapped two versions of the album, which is the follow up to 2003's '100 Windows', and said that the new album is currently "in a kind of state of flux".

Defending the long gestation period the album has had, Del Naja told the Guardian that the band have not been resting on their laurels.

"I work really hard," he stated. "I'm dividing my time between being here [in the band's studio], painting in the garage next to my house, trying to finish the sleeve, then we've got rehearsals over at Bath. Average day, I work from about 11, 12, 'til about 10 at night."

Conversely, bandmate Grant 'Daddy G' Marshall told to Undertheradarmag.com that the band "have about 10 tracks we've mixed or are mixing right now" for the album, before confirming that Damon Albarn, Elbow's Guy Garvey and Martina Topley-Bird are all set to appear, with Garvey involved in a number of songs.

"[Garvey's] working on four tracks on that one. Martina Topley-Bird's worked with us on two tracks and Damon Albarn worked on at least one," Marshall revealed.

Marshall went on to say that Massive Attack are considering releasing the stems of some of the tracks online, enabling fans to remix their own versions.

"An album is a big concept to take in and now people want more than the playlist you give them, they want to make their own playlist. People expect more than 45 minutes of music. So, maybe we'll give them [the songs] away and they can make their own compilation of the tracks that we have," Marshall explained.

"That was the thing that we're talking about. We're working with about 22 tracks from the studio and we'd love for people to remix them. I think more bands should do that with their fans."

Massive Attack are due to headline Bestival tonight (September 11). The band release a new EP, 'Splitting The Atom', on October 5.

Massive Attack Name Album 'Heligoland'
LP due for release next year

Bristol's trip hop collective Massive Attack have confirmed details of their forthcoming album 'Heligoland'.

It's been a long time coming. Massive Attack helped to define British music in the 90s, spinning together a heady brew of dub, soul, funk and electronic music. However after their seminal album 'Mezzanine' the band began to splinter.

Mushroom departed, with 3D and Daddy G attempting to steer the ship. Since then Massive Attack have only released one album, with 2003's long player '100th Window' widely judged as a 3D solo effort.

Now the band are set to return. 3D and Daddy G have been holed up in their Bristol studio for some time, absorbing new influences and re-defining what it means to be in Massive Attack in the 21st century.

Due for release in February the band's new album 'Heligoland' is one of the most eagerly anticipated British albums for some time. Featuring a raft of guest appearances, Massive Attack have hooked up with an usual array of vocalists.

Long time friend Martina Topley Bird returns, alongside contributions from Damon Albarn, Elbow singer Guy Garvey and more.

Reggae icon Horace Andy returns, while DFA producer Tim Goldsworthy helps out with production. Some of the new material appeared on the recent EP 'Splitting The Atom' which demonstrated that Massive Attack's enticing, smoky, atmospheric sound is still as potent as ever.

Massive Attack are due to release their new album 'Heligoland' on February 8th. Tracklisting is as follows:

Pray For Rain - featuring Tunde Adebimpe
Babel – featuring Martina Topley-Bird
Splitting The Atom – featuring Robert del Naja / Grant Marshall / Horace Andy
Girl I Love You – featuring Horace Andy
Psyche – featuring Martina Topley-Bird
Flat Of The Blade – featuring Guy Garvey
Paradise Circus – featuring Hope Sandoval
Rush Minute – featuring Robert del Naja
Saturday Come Slow – featuring Damon Albarn
Atlas Air – featuring Robert del Naja

Guy Garvey is definitely a good vocal fit... I'm behind on their recent EP material, too, but it will be nice to eventually catch up.

Massive Attack reveal intense new album sessions with Damon Albarn
Blur man cracked the whip when duo recorded 'Heligoland'

January 16, 2010
http://www.nme.com/news/massive-attack/49252

Massive Attack have revealed how Damon Albarn made them work intense full-time sessions in his 13 studio to record two songs for the Bristol band's new album 'Heligoland'.

The follow-up to 2003's '100th Window', for 'Heligoland' band leader Robert '3D' Del Naja drafted in Albarn to work on two songs, but the Bristolian said that Albarn was initially wary of the band's famously drawn-out methods.

"He [Albarn] was like, 'I want to work with you, but I'm not getting sucked into some nine-year-long Bristol dope-haze'," he told NME.COM.

He added: "[Albarn] said] 'We'll work 10 to six, at my studio, for five days and that'll be it'. The irony was that it was him who ended up instigating all the bad behaviour!"

Adding vocals to their song 'Saturday Come Slow' and playing keyboard on 'Splitting The Atom', Albarn is just one of a series of collaborators on the album including Horace Andy, Martina Topley-Bird, TV On The Radio's Tunde Adebimpe and Elbow's Guy Garvey.

Massive Attack planning new EP following 'Heligoland''s release
3D and Daddy G set to unveil more material in May

February 2, 2010
http://www.nme.com/news/massive-attack/49538

Massive Attack have revealed that they are planning to unveil an EP of new material in May, following the release of new album 'Heligoland'.

'Heligoland' is out on February 8, with band leader Robert '3D' Del Naja telling BBC 6music that fans could expect to hear songs that didn't make the cut for the album soon afterwards.

"It will probably be made up of tracks that we didn't put on this record, and maybe some new stuff as well," he said of the EP.

He added that a song, 'Red Light', that the band wrote with Elbow's Guy Garvey (who guests on 'Heligoland') is a possible for the EP – but they're struggling to capture it on record.

"That's obviously one of the tracks we're looking at trying to finish," he said. "We've got this one… which we wrote with Guy, which we’ve been playing live for two years and we still can’t finish it. I really don’t know if it will get finished."

Damon Albarn joins Massive Attack for surprise live collaboration
Gorillaz chief takes the stage in London with the Bristolian collective

Damon Albarn made a surprise appearance at Massive Attack's London show tonight (February 11).

The Gorillaz man took to the stage at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo during the encore, to perform recent EP track 'Splitting The Atom' with the band and their regular collaborator Horace Andy.

Thanking him for his collaboration Massive Attack's 3D then praised the singer for his part in the band's new album 'Heligoland' declaring: "It's my great pleasure to introduce Damon Albarn, he was partly responsible for the latest record - thanks a lot mate."

They then all performed 'Saturday Comes Slow' with Albarn taking over lead vocals from that record to loud applause from the crowd.

The surprise appearance comes two months ahead of Albarn's scheduled live comeback when he is due to take the stage in April as Gorillaz headline the 2010 Coachella festival.
