Hey-the CFL starts on Wednesday always the first signs of pro football! Figured now was as good as any time to start the yearly football thread.
Does anyone care if Favre comes back? I'd actually like to see him play another year healthy with a good team and the games vs. Green Bay would be fun. I'm still trying to figure out why the Eagles couldn't extend McNabb, but gave him more money for no reason other than to "keep him happy". What the hell is that all about??? Stupid!
Eagles had a good draft-Maclin could be a steal at WR and Ingram at TE if he's healthy. What about your team's drafts?
Does NY think Sanchez is the guy? I like him but he'll need time.

Wow-the first pre-season game is Sunday night (tomorrow) between Tennessee and Buffalo. The Titans have former Rutgers stud WR KEnny Britt as a 1st round pick-he's the man! It's almost time! Maybe we should set up an ICE fantasy football league. It can be free-ESPN.com, yahoo.com and just about anyone else has them. I'm in two money leagues-a free one would be relaxing and I can't afford the two I'm in as it is!
The Eagles lost their best LB for the season in Stewart Bradley this week which was devestating and now WR DeSean jackson hurt his knee today-I hope it's not serious as he was amazing last year. Also, defensive co-ordinator and genius Jim Johnson died of cancer last month-very sad, he ws one of the all-time best. Hope this season is as good as all predict as many magazines and sites have the Eagles in the Super Bowl-I'm a diehard fan and I don't think so. Maybe, but I'm not 100% sold.

The Giants gave Eli Manning a 6-year contract extension worth ~$100,000,000. We fans will be expecting a few Super Bowl rings for that kind of moolah.

Gotta say I hate the Giants of course being from Philly, but I kinda like Eli. I think he's a good QB and a decent leader. Plus, he has a Super Bowl ring doesn't he? Why does he get bashed so much? Sure, he throws a ton of picks, but last I checked so did a guy named Favre.

The Giants always have a good shot at a championship as long as Eli stays healthy.

Man, receivers are going down like flies in camp so far-Steve Smith, Donnie Avery, Antonio Bryant, DeSean Jackson-Jackson should be OK, but the others are out for a few weeks already.
Eagles-Patriots tomorrow night-should be the usual pre-season crapfest, but I hope Brady at least starts-I'd like to see him. I also hope no more Eagles get hurt!

I am sickened the Eagles have signed Michael Vick. It might work however they use him, but I'm not happy at all, especially as an animal lover. Plus, the Eagles look awful tonight and Celek (their starting TE) is another in a long list of Eagles hurt.
To Vick I say from all K-9s:
Woof You you piece of shite!

IP, I too am sickened especially being a life long Iggles fan. This has almost become a moral issue for me. If I love animals can I still be an Eagles fan?
Any other degenerate scumbags out there looking for a job?

After just listening to Andy Reid's press conference (and I'm glad Celek only has an AC sprain-he'll be OK-at least he didn't dislocate his shoulder like idiot me), I still don't get it. Yes, Vick can be scary on the field, but he won't be a QB-McNabb is awesome and you have Kolb and Feely.
My guess-WR/RB. A little bit of the "Wildcat" position, but McNabb won't be happy coming off the field for a few plays each game and I don't blame him.
But I see him as a WR more than anything else. It could be exciting, but damn, I despise what he did. Do people deserve a second chance? Yes, but sooooo often these NFL and other pro leagues and let's face it musicians, time and time again fuck up. I hope this works out and I'm over the shock right now, but I'm still not thrilled. I just hope he does his humane work constantly so other future thugs avoid what he did. But how can I trust him or any other of these dirtbags? It's getting harder and harder to be a fan...

Been a Jets fan all my life but because I've lived down here since '83 I've had the Eagles as my "second team." I'm going to find it very hard to root for them. I don't think Vick should be shut out of the league. He did his time, but I don't have to root for him or a team that would hire him.

I break out in hives of anticipation as the '09 season approaches. You couldn't wipe the smile off my face yesterday evening witnessing a live game by my beloved Steelers. Don't care that it was preseason - it was a win and I'll take it. After all, gotta finish up getting rings for the OTHER hand.

I hear ya man-preseason sucks but I still watch and enjoy seeing the young guys/scrubs play. games all weekend on NFL Network including two tonight, plus we get the CFL in Philly on CNPhilly so I watch those games each Fri. and Sat. when I can.
There's a huge fallout here in Philly over the Vick signing, but if the guy produces and does the right things for animal rights he'll be accepted. I'm still stunned over this and confused!

Imagine how I feel tonight. NY Jets vs. St Louis Rams on CBS.

The Rex Ryan era begins (and hopefully eventually the Mark Sanchez era).

I read on another site that they already have shirts in Philly:
Vick's an Eagle, Hide your Beagle.

Yeah, the front page of the Daily News today said "Hide Your Dogs". I'm sure all the drunken white trash morons will be buying all kinds of unfunny shirts. These are the same losers who wear shirts of Calvin And Hobbes peeing on a Dallas Cowboy. They are why I only watch the games with my buddies on TV eveery week-it's safer that way!
I just hope Vick has distanced himself from his scumbag posse including those who ratted him out. It's the sponges and jobless and toothless sycophants who follow the atheletes from their neighborhoods who often bring them down. These guys just can't let go of their toguh pasts and it always brings them down.
I'm going back and forth between the Phils-Braves/ Jets-Rams/ Lions-Argos (CFL-yes, I'm a loser) right now and there's a late game (Broncos-Seahwaks I think?) at 10pm on NFL Network!
Oh yeah-Howard just hit a HR 3-2 PHILS!!!!
I mentioned Sanchez earlier-he'll struggle, but I think he was the right pick for the Jets.

Regarding Michael Vick, I believe that everyone deserves second chances (although I am a dog-lover and still despise him for what he did). So far, he has said all of the right things, but I'll judge him by his actions - not his words.

I don't see any upside here. Up until now, the Philadelphia Eagles organization has been pretty solid and a relatively class act. Even though Donovan McNabb is being the good soldier ("I'm not upset, I lobbied for him to come here"!), he has to be thinking that maybe the front office is flirting with the idea of giving Vick the starting quarterback job). If this is true, then I despise these creeps for treating a class act like McNabb as if he's a disposable rag!

I'm not surprised that Vick is back in the NFL. What surprises me is the team that signed him - I was convinced that it would be the Dallas Cowboys.

So Favre is back after all, with the Vikings. What a surprise. Just happened to decide after training camp ended, how convenient. Why would anyone would ever believe another word that comes out of his mouth?

I hope he gets embarrassed in every game he plays this year.

Me too. Talk about ruining your own reputation. If the Jets can't win it all, I might just root for the Packers!
