No details yet, but this is great news and hopefully it is a full length show. Many fans know this was originally broadcast live as a simulcast in movie theaters in 1978 from the Heavy Horses tour. Only about 50 minutes of the show were shown-I really hope this is the full show. Either way, very cool indeed! Details added by Linda ... Product Description Jethro Tull were a unique phenomenon in popular music history. Their mix of hard rock, folk melodies, blues licks, surreal, impossibly dense lyrics, and overall profundity defied easy analysis, but that didn't dissuade fans from giving them 11 gold and five platinum albums. Co-founded and led by wildman-flautist-guitarist-singer-songwriter Ian Anderson, the group carved a place all its own in popular music.
Monday 14th October 1978 marked a very special event in music history. Performing live from Madison Square Garden, Jethro Tull became the first rock group to appear live from America on British TV. The performance was part of a US tour to support the release of the group's first full-length concert album, double LP Bursting Out.
This release of Live At Madison Square Garden 1978 on DVD including CD, features audio and video of many of their most popular tracks, such as "Aqualung", "Song From the Wood", "Thick as a Brick", "Heavy Horses" and more. The DVD is in Dolby 5.1 surround. DVD1. Sweet Dream 2. One Brown Mouse 3. Heavy Horses 4. Opening 5. Thick As A Brick 6. No Lullaby (Including Flute Solo) 7. Songs From The Wood 8. Band Intro 9. Quatrain 10. Aqualung 11. Locomotive Breath (Including Dambusters March) 12. Too Old To Rock 'N' Roll 13. My God/Cross Eyed Mary 14. Locomotive Breath (Encore) (Including Dambusters March) Bonus CD1. Sweet Dream 2. One Brown Mouse 3. Heavy Horses 4. Thick As A Brick 5. No Lullaby (Including Flute Solo) 6. Songs From The Wood 7. Quatrain 8. Aqualung 9. Locomotive Breath (Including Dambusters March) 10. Too Old To Rock 'N' Roll 11. My God/Cross Eyed Mary http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002IR3PSC/?tag=imwan-20

This made my day! My favorite Tull lineup, though the ailing John Glascock missed this tour. The few clips on youtube are great. I think the shortened version of Thick as a Brick from this show ended up as a bonus track on the latest cd reissue.

Glascock did tour for the Heavy Horses album as it's all him on the "Live Bursting Out" album from 1978. But yes, you're right as he did miss the "Bursting Out" tour and Tony Williams is on this who was also very good. I still have a VHS boot of this show and I hope they cleaned it up! Also, Tull played 3 nights at Madison Square Garden on this tour and hopefully they used footage from all 3 nights.

I'll be getting this on day one! I love Tull, one of the best live shows I ever saw was "Thick as a Brick" at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island during '75 I believe. Tight band and you can't keep your eyes off on Ian. What a showman and musician.

I finally got into Tull and have purchased all of their CD's and collected numerous boots over the years. I have the DVD of MSG from 1978 that will be released here, and I'm hoping it would be the full show as well.
Don...I thought Stormwatch was a great CD also...I think Elegy is one of the most beautiful instrumentals ever.

I got this straight from the list of 4th quarter releases from EMI Catalogue. It's coming, don't worry about that. Whether the date will change, who knows. Also, usually the bands are the last to know about these type of releases so don't expect much info on the Tull site. And, to the others who mentioned it, Stormwatch is one of my favorite Tull albums and "Elegy" is a gorgeous song-I was stunned when Tull played that live when I saw them on their 2002 tour.

The CD and DVD have a few differences in the track listing, and this also a UK site...will the US get this release as well? Good find Tycoon...

I saw them on the Stormwatch tour way back when. I didn't know the album at all so the first chunk went past very fast. Even from the vast distance away that I was sitting you could see the harmony vocals on "Songs from the Wood" were pantomimed. But the big numbers really rocked.

I heard the beginning of Songs From the Wood is lip synched...you can hear Ian Anderson in the background vocals as he takes the lead vocal. Personally, I'm hoping this CD/DVD is released in the US. My comment above is from Spin Records where I got all the info above. I E-mailed them and got this response... Hi Mark, as far as we know it is a UK release only. Cheers Steve@SpinI'm being hopeful.

Mark: This won't be a US release, but it's reasonablly priced and any online retailer will have it. AmazonUK will probably be the best, but Tower.com and DVD.CO.UK are OK too. Also, a CD/DVD combo in the US won't be much cheaper if it all than a UK release. As for "Songs From The Wood"-only the intro was synched-no way they'd pull off the layers of harmonies there live. This whole era of Tull from 1974-1989 (excepting the dreadful "Under Wraps") is my favorite of the band especially "Songs From The Wood", "Heavy Horses", "Stormwatch", "A", "Broadsword And The Beast" and "Crest Of A Knave".

IP...sorry for any confusion but I was referring to the intro being lip synched...not the entire song. As for the release, I'm bummed it won't be in the US. Does Tower.com sell in US$ or the UK Pound? I want to get this release in a big way. I've become a big fan in a short time and releases like this are few and far between. There was a double DVD of their history released overseas, but not here. Please keep us informed of places to get this release. Thanks, Mark

The release date is either 10/5 or 10/12 in the UK. I'm still not sure how many discs there will be and if it's a CD/DVD combo. It's showing 2 discs on the Amazon page, but based on the above info, I don't think all of those songs would fit on a single CD. I was able to find the Classic Artists DVD with Jethro Tull in NTSC format on E-bay. I'm hoping to do the same with the above.
