I'm just tearing it up watching instant streaming video from Netflix. It's awesome. The only drawback right now is the limited number of titles available. Which, ironically, makes "the hunt" more fun.

Use this thread to post some interesting finds you've made, or to discuss your successes and failures generally. Not in life. In streaming video.

Here's some tidbits on Netflix -- did you know they have the Star Trek blu-ray's available for instant view? Dexter is on there.

I watched Hancock last night. Phantasm the night before. The library of classics is pretty good, too.

I watched Pan's Labyrinth from Netflix Instant and it looked beautiful.

I would like to watch Batman: TAS, but it is not available. (I guess they want to sell them for keeps). Mask of the Phantasm is, though.

The Heroes season sets are on there. Lost is not.

Wall-E is on Netflix instant. Surprising to me.

I watched "King of Kong" last night -- perfect use of instant viewing. Not quite finished with it, though. It's good. It's about two guys vying for the world record in Donkey Kong. (A documentary).

Is this video on demand? How much do you pay to see a film? Do you watch it on your tv or on your computer?

I've heard of King of Kong, in fact I posted about it in other forums.

Hulu has the entire run of "Spaced", the series that the folks who brought you Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz did before making it big. They've also got the entire run of Firefly and several seasons (possibly the whole run) of Newsradio.

I want Firefly. Netflix has Serentiy but not Firefly.

I can watch the Fireflies on the PS3 though (Playon is an awesome app, thanks Jeff! )

Yes. It is totally free -- included in my regular Netflix charge (you know, the plan where I get Blu-rays in the mail). Unlimited.

Hulu is totally free, obviously.

Netflix has a deal with Tivo -- my Tivo is a Netflix box. All the selections in my Netflix queue show up on my Tivo menu. It's amazing -- if available, it streams in HD to my 40" TV. Looks about like a Blu-ray while streaming.

Yes, I watched all of Firefly from Hulu on my PS3, with Playon. They've just unveiled Wii support in the latest version, Jay. I tested it out on my kids Wii, and it's pretty good, but doesn't seem to be able to go fullscreen. If you want to try it (you have a Wii, right?), go to the Wii internet channel and enter http://www.playon.tv. I'll probably use it to take back my PS3 from the kids. :)

Yes, I have Wii. But I haven't bought Playon yet. Still in my free trial, plus extension.

I may try it, though. It may be worth it for the media center streaming also.

Hmmmm - I'll have to check out Spaced, I've heard good things. Hulu was playing so choppy for me a few months back that I stopped visiting, hope they worked out the kinks.

I usually have to pause each segment and let it completely buffer to avoid choppiness. It's a bit annoying, but I just think of it as an extended commercial break.

That happened to me the other day on Hulu, and I closed everything else that was taking up bandwidth. And I have good Internet. Very annoying.

How do you get it to stream the blu ray version? Do you have to check that box that says "I can received media in the blu-ray format" or whatever it says? That affects the streaming quality?

It automatically sends the best quality your connection can handle. I have a good 10M cable modem connection, so it scores out as "HD" on movies where that is available.

It can't really be "Blu-ray." Not possible on a transmission like that to do 1080p. But what I'm saying is they are clearly using that quality as the source, and the end product from me looked like Blu-ray quality. (That was only true for the recent hits. Pan's Labyrinth was breathtaking).

OK, gotcha. Do you watch in full screen mode? I have a 10M+ cable connection too and it is still annoyingly choppy on full screen.

I'll try it out with Pan's Labyrinth tonight. I've been using my mac mini as a HTPC for about a week with Boxee.

And for your original question, we watched Milo and Otis (very cute for the kids) and a documentary about Bloods and Crips last night.

Do you have HD TV (a source and a TV)? This is streaming to my HD Tivo box. I don't know about Boxee or anything else. The only things I'm sure should be HD is my Tivo, and the various Blu-ray players that have done the deal directly with Netflix (though I can't even be sure of that).

I thought Hulu was pretty good before this, but this blows Hulu out of the water.

Yeah, I have both, Comcast HD DVR, and a TV. I'm going to get rid of the Comcast, so I'm investigating what I can leverage without. I watch Netlfix streams though Firefox on the mac mini, and it sends it out through a DVI to HDMI cable. Basically, the TV serves as a large monitor for the PC. It's just that when I hit the "Full Screen" button on their interface, it has a choppiness to it that my wife doesn't seem to mind, but bugs the crap outta me.

I feel like maybe the Tivo guys (a Linux based machine) got all those modes sorted out where nothing gets lost from formatting issues.

And my Netflix queue shows up on the "Now Playing" menu alongside my previously recorded programs.
