http://hangout.altsounds.com/news/10741 ... y-7th.html "The Donnas Greatest Hits, Vol 16" to hit US shelves July 7th
May 9, 2009, 11:33 AM In celebration of 16 impressive years playing blissfully high-powered rock and roll, unrivaled all-female quartet The Donnas will deliver a career-spanning retrospective entitled The Donnas Greatest Hits, Vol 16 July 7th on their own Purple Feather Records. The comprehensive album features two brand new songs, two never-before-heard b-sides from their self-released 2007 album Bitchin, live versions of hits “Take It Off” and “Fall Behind Me”, and two previously unreleased tracks from the band’s earliest days together. The band also re-recorded five tracks, remixed one and included two alternative versions of songs from their Lookout! Records catalog (1998-2001), one of which is sung by original producer/co-writer Darin Raffaelli.
Brett Anderson (vocals), Allison Robertson (vocals, guitar), Maya Ford (bass guitar), and Torry Castellano (drums, percussion, vocals) formed The Donnas in Palo Alto, CA in 1993 and have been consistently rocking since, an unprecedented longevity for the all-female rock band. Drawing inspiration from The Ramones, AC/DC and Kiss, Greatest Hits marks the band’s 8th release and their music has recently been featured in the film and soundtrack to I Love You, Man, Rock Band 2, “The Bad Girls Club” (Oxygen network) and “Ultimate Gamer” (Sci-Fi Channel).
The Donnas will tour the US this summer as headliners and with female musical pioneers Blondie and Pat Benatar, all dates below.

wow they've been together for 16 years? I don't think I've ever heard a song of theirs. I like the look of the cover though.

I like the title. Makes me think of bands/artists who've had multiple compilations

Got my copy last week. All the rerecordings and live versions suggest licensing problems, but for a mish-mosh, it rocks hard. And judging from the artwork, they're really into the color purple (not the movie or the book, just the color purple).

I liked their eponymous album, and "Get Skintight" but by "Gold Medal" they were diluting their strengths in order to appeal to a wider audience. It was probably necessary, as the biker chick/party girl shtick is hard to carry off in your thirties. They remind me of the Bangles in that when they tried to get more people to listen to them, they threw away the only reason to listen to them at all.

If you like the Donnas, you might be interested in the Bobbyteens. I have the "Not So Sweet" album and it's the same kind of trashy vibe.
The Donnas' fame peaked around 2003 so they are no longer either cool or lame. If you liked Blondie's first album or Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation" then the Donnas might interest you.

One man's Donnas is another man's Kelly Clarkson. If it works for you, you should never be ashamed.
Unless it's 1975-onward Bee Gees. I will not tolerate that.

The Donnas' Spend the Night album is the closest anybody's ever come to a female Ramones.

I must make a mental note to catch them live if the opportunity arises. I think they've played over here before.

I like poppy rock music, like Blink 182 and Green Day type stuff. Would I enjoy it as fun rock?
