I suppose if one wanted to just sample the new remastering this will do. This was always one of the very best Stones comps and it looks like the original cover art has been restored (not that it was good). Don't know if this was the rarities disc Amazon.com was talking about-I certainly hope not especially as it's coming out in August anyway, after the boxset. Does anyone know if the live albums are getting remastered? I'd love to have Still Life again.
Track listing: 1. Start Me Up 2. Brown Sugar 3. Harlem Shuffle 4. It's Only Rock 'N Roll (But I Like It) 5. Mixed Emotions 6. Angie 7. Tumbling Dice 8. Fool to Cry 9. Rock and a Hard Place 10. Miss You 11. Hot Stuff 12. Emotional Rescue 13. Respectable 14. Beast of Burden 15. Waiting on a Friend 16. Wild Horses 17. Bitch 18. Undercover of the Night

If memory serves me correctly, "Jump Back" was originally an import-only release back in 1994, offering a taste of the then-forthcoming Virgin remasters. It wasn't officially released in the US until a few years after that.

If Universal follows the same pattern as Virgin, the live albums and comps will be reissued after the studio albums are complete. Although Jump Back more or less took the place of Rewind.

Correct me if I'm wrong:
- The version of "Miss You" on this comp is an exclusive edit for this set and is not available anywhere else.
- "Undercover of the Night" is also an edit that is exclusive to this set, though only the ending is cropped (possibly the 45 mix).
I just picked this comp up a year or two ago and was surprised at how much I enjoyed the edited "Miss You". I guess I've never heard the original 45, maybe they are the same versions?
Are there any other unique versions/edits on this comp?
Thanks in advance, Stones fans.

Thanks in advance, Stones fans. I never had this best-of, but if it has a few alternate versions I'd be in, especially as a one disc set it's very well put together highlighting this era of the Stones.

For what it's worth, the Virgin disc sounded good and is still available on store shelves around here.

I don't have any comp covering the CBS years, maybe "Jump Back" is the best one to get. "Made in the Shade" has a better cover, but only goes up to the '80s.

Googa: Made In The Shade was a good comp but that was 1975. Maybe you're thinking of Rewind 1971-1984 which went up to 1983? By the way Jump Back has a misleading title as it does not go to 1993 but rather 1989 though the contract went to 1993.

Stones comps covering the 1971-present years often use single edits, or new edits of songs (Sucking in the 70s, Jump Back, 40 Licks).
Btw, if you look at the picture of the new 1971-2005 remasters box set on Amazon, the alleged bonus disc is not included.

As mentioned in the other Stones thread, I expect the "box bonus disc" to be the second CD of the deluxe Exile reissue, nothing exclusive.

Yes. But I believe the edit of "Miss You" on Jump Back... is exclusive to that set and not a 45 mix. Hopefully somebody will be able to confirm this.

There are a few single edits on Jump Back: Mixed Emotions, Fool to Cry, Miss You, Hot Stuff, Beast of Burden Miss You (studio): Some Girls (4:48) Album Version Rewind (4:49) Album Version Jump Back (3:36) Single Version Forty Licks (3:35) Single Version Rarities 1971-2003 (7:33) Dance Version SW Bonus Disc (8:36) 12" Version http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jump_Back: ... ing_StonesClick the link and then click on Miss You to see more info on the song...

It's always been a decent one disc comp but I don’t see it as necessary to carry over into Universal. Why not just release a new one? Or better yet one of their Gold series since there is way more than enough for two solid discs of music. They could fill up a disc before touching the 80s and the second disc could allow for all of the 80s-2000s hits and for “essential” album cuts.

Maybe my Forty Licks is good enough. Plus the two original '60s comps, which I also have on the original Japanese London CD's.

Thank you! I guess the version of "Miss You" isn't exclusive to "Jump Back" as it is the 45 mix and was also released on "Forty Licks" (which I do not own). Next question(s). I guess this move to Universal puts "Forty Licks" out of print as well. Anybody hear of any plans to re-release this one? Or, am I wrong in assuming that it will be put out of print?

"Jump Back" was the Stones bigger seller album for Virgin than any of the individual non-ABKCO Stones albums,so it makes sense to put it back on the market for casual fans.

Jump Back is a very good and well-liked comp. I don't see it as redundant as it has a nice mix of 70s and 80s Stones. Is it needed for you or me? Absolutely not. But as comps go, it's a good one and still sells-even though it sold well as an import in the US from 1993 to 2003, it finally got a US release in 2004 and went Gold.

I am not arguing the merits of Jump Back. As far as single disc comps, it’s solid in terms of hits and for casual fans that is very adequate. But look at how many artists have tiers of comps for various levels of interest. Many artists in the Gold series do not have nearly as deep a catalog as the Stones 71 on era. I just think that most people won’t collect many of the albums but have deeper interest than the big singles.
