Looks like a nice box for Stones fans! Depending what B-sides, etc. are included. But the posters, etc. look great!

.....but the disc of B-sides, live tracks etc. may just be that lame "Rarities" disc, in which only 2 of the tracks were actually new to CD.

I think Jimbo should be commissioned to put together a Stones box set. Just give him access to their tape archives and let him run wild.

Of course, in his contract, he will be provided a limo and driver for his daily two-hour Jimbo lunches, plus a generous per diem so he can actually pay for those CDs.

Tempting, in that it looks like one of those Japanese packages for which collectors will pay two hundred dollars for an empty slipcase. As for the bonus disc, well...the Stones also included a bonus disc as part of a 15-disc box back in 1990, called "Collectables" (it was later included with a deluxe edition of "Flashpoint") that resembled the "Rarities" disc, including a few extended dance remixes of questionable importance to some collectors. And don't forget "Sucking In The Seventies".

In other words, the tracklisting could be cool (and include "Think I'm Going Mad") or it could be yet another disappointment--and for me these days, I seem to be inevtiably let down by the final tracklistings for many of these sets. There is no phrase more misused in music marketing these days than "Previously Unreleased".

The only reference to a bonus disc I could find in the product description is the 2nd disc of the to-be-released in 2010 "Exile On Main Street" Deluxe Edition. Maybe the product description changed after the original post?

So far the box has the 13 re-releases of studio albums from "Sticky Fingers" through "A Bigger Bang", plus room for the 14th (Deluxe Edition of "Exile..." with it's bonus disc).

No mention of the "Rarities" disc, any comps from the era, or any live material. Current product description does not mention a disc of rarities, though I guess that description can be updated again.

This looks a lot like the Amazon-exclusive U2 box from a year or 2 ago that included 3 re-masters and room for a yet-to-be-released 4th.

Something doesn't quite follow in Amazon's description --

This limited edition collectible Rolling Stones boxset is handsomely constructed in a sturdy hardbound shell, and comes with the newly remastered post 1971 Rolling Stones catalog, plus room for the fourteenth (not included). Re-mastered from the original audio tapes, each deluxe includes a disc of b-sides, live tracks and rarities, and the packaging on all three titles has been restored and expanded, with new liner notes for each record, previously unseen photos and full lyrics...

+++

WHAT three titles? And what is meant by "each deluxe includes..."? Elsewhere in the description, it seems clear that the box contains the same remasters currently available to retail, which have NO new liner notes, bonus tracks, etc. I think the description would probably be accurate if that one line ("Re-mastered...lyrics") was removed...

JMarch,

I think you nailed it -- bad copying and pasting without proper editing. Here's the Product Description from the Amazon U2 box:

Product Description
This limited edition collectible U2 Deluxe Edition boxset is handsomely constructed in a sturdy hardbound shell, measuring 5 3/4" (width) x 2 3/4" (spine width) x 5 7/16" (tall) and comes with the newly remastered and expanded 2 CD deluxe editions of the bands first three albums BOY, OCTOBER and WAR, plus room for a fourth (not included). Re-mastered from the original audio tapes, each deluxe includes a disc of b-sides, live tracks and rarities, and the packaging on all three titles has been restored and expanded, with new liner notes for each record, previously unseen photos and full lyrics.

Jay is correct. Amazon copied and pasted info from their last "exclusive" box into the description for this new Stones exclusive.
Not a bad deal for any completists who haven't picked up any of the 2009 remasters yet. Works out to $10.46 per title at current price of $135.99.

Is THIS the thread everyone is using to discuss the 2009 remasters? I'd like a little more background info from someone who has A-B'd them against the 1994 Virgins to see if it's worth ANOTHER investment. I have heard one person say that the Virgins are a 'truer" representation, and that the '09's are too "bright". Obviously, I'm proceeding cautiously after being warned "Star Star" has been maimed/truncated/destroyed. Are there other unwelcome changes to the classic catalog? Please advise.

I'm guessing these use those new, compressed remasters?

I like 'em-but the first batch might sound a bit loud on certain release like Goat Head's Soup and It's Only Rock And Roll. I still like those, but they are a bit loud.
As for the 2nd batch-they are great and they've gotten much better reviews than the first. Some Girls, Emotional Rescue, Tattoo You and Undercover are all great and I mean that. Some Girls even still has some tape hiss which is a good thing.
I have not heard the 3rd batch yet.

The problem is I don't really have much interest in any of the albums in the later batch.
