First shot of Matt Smiths' incarnation with his companion Amy Pond played by Kaen Gillan. Interesting and I see a bit of Troughton in there over all.

Interesting. The Doctor a la Tucker Carlson. Not the direction I would have expected. Then again, I didn't expect a buzz-headed guy in a leather jacket and t-shirt back in 2005 either, and he turned out pretty well.

yeah and she's a tall drink of water....

I'm thinking that those shoes came right off Pat Troughtons' feet! (Smith's that is) her shoes look like they came right off Tennant....

Why do I think that jacket needs to be crushed velvet?

I like the girl next door look of the companion, I just hope they don't try to turn this into Tardis 90210.

With Moffat at the helm, I don't think we'd ever have to worry about that. The more I look at it, the more I think we'll see a lot more Troughton-esque stuff coming. I can see a young Steven Moffat really getting into the creepier, scarier aspects of the old Troughton monster eps and that whole feel. The bow tie, shoes, you name it, that's all a very Troughton influenced look.

Bah! You can tell that's not even a proper Tardis in those pictures! :D

And why are the actors portraying the Doctor all so young these days? What happened to old geezer Doctors like Troughton or Pertwee?

Bring back the geezers! ;)

Moffatt felt he had an "old soul" portrayal.

You know, I'd laugh if his look for the first season was a running commentary on the previous Doctors' wardrobes. So this Troughton look morphs into a more elegant Pertwee look and into something reminiscent of Baker and so on. Nothing blatant, but similar enough for people to go "Hah! Who's he gonna be this time?"

And then next season he debuts with what will be his definitive style.

Yeah, I'm already dreading the season premiere. Stacy and I watch Doctor Who together, and the second she sees this girl she's going to read my mind and get mad. :-D

Mike, I was thinking much the same thing -- that this is just too Troughton to be permanent.
