We apparently have a skunk living under our deck in the back yard, the small dog got sprayed by it earlier in the week but it wasn't known that it's actually living in our back yard until today. Considering we live in a residential area we have no idea how it got here...

It's a little-known fact that skunks have been migrating into the suburbs for several years now. They need better access to shopping malls.

It must've been Tom Cruise who put it there. :ohyes:

Try playing some loud Hilary Fluff music under your deck. That'll scare it away for sure. :ohyes:

We have all manner of critters in our downtown neighborhood. Deer spottings are becoming commonplace. The groundhog is the most annoying - as far as garden munching goes.

Be careful about eradication of the skunk. I read a true story once - can't remember where - about a guy who poisoned the beast. Which then crawled up under the house and died. All was well until the critter began to decay. The smell slowly built up. So, intrepid homeowner went under the house to remove the carcass. He grabbed the tail to pull it out, the tail came off and the full force of the scent gland sprayed over him and the underside of the house. Hilarity ensued.

Female black cat.

Can of white paint.

Stripe on the cat, skunk follows her to the neighbor's yard.

I like that plan! Now to get a female black cat from the local animal shelter...

Be sure not to use ACME™ brand paint. It washes off at the most inopportune times.

A couple of winters ago, we were sitting in the living room watching tv, and then suddenly this horrific garlicy smell erupted, then it got worse, and no longer smelled like garlic, but skunk.
It was coming from the basement. Apparently a couple of skunks decided to move in for the winter, and they had a lover's spat.
It was BAAAAAD for a few days, but it finally cleared out.
The Landlord cleared them out, and sprayed some stuff, but it was kinda hairy for a while.

He pulled a raccoon out of the basement a week or so ago. That was the source of the giant fly invasion we had. That was no fun either.

we are up a little ways from you in Georgetown and had to deal with a similar situation. but our resident was a huge hungry raccoon. turns out he was there for the free dog food we kept providing for him under the delusion that we were feeding our poor little shitzhu. :-)

after a few weeks of bringing the food bowl inside the house at night, he moved on. maybe the skunk is likewise munching on your dogs food?

Nah, the dogs eat inside(unless we go out of town). We do have a pear tree in the back yard, he may be living off of that...
