All I have to say about this comic book is that I am so over zombie super-heroes. I'm done.

My 'review' reposted from the Stanny.

======
HOLY FUCKING SHIT.

Blackest Night just totally blew me away.

I was a bit worried, and still am a bit concerned about all the tie-ins etc.

But the first issue of the actual miniseries = Awesome.

Seriously, I think it gave me a bigger thriller than Sinestro Corps War, which is my other most highly rated 'event' of this decade.

Just..........................wow.

So many genuinely touching moments. Yes there's gore, but it fits, IMO. It shocks, but in a good way, not in the Infinite Crisis 'let's just show you eyeballs splattered cos we can'.

Wow.

I liked it, it looks like I can just follow the main mini and GL & GLC and worry about the satellite books later(at least for now).

I bought this on the strength of the latest GL issue (featuring Black Hand)... I had planned on passing. Did I need more GJ gore? Characters I liked and should not have been killed as zombies (read: J'Onn J'onzz, Raplh & Sue, etc)? ANOTHER ring colour?!? I'm not the target audience to be sure.

That said, and while I do have some misgivings, the narrative and dialogue was sharp and the art perfect in issue #1. A strong start despite the gore. Biggest trepidation: how does this all get resolved? Massive reset button? The light of a white ring returns everything to normal?

And come on, it certainly gave me a smile when I paid for it and was given for a free Black Lantern promo ring.

Very neat!

It's been announced that November will start three new mini-series, each three parts: Blackest Night: Wonder Woman, Blackest Night: JSA and Blackest Night: The Flash. While announcements of those titles are still pending, it's expected they'll start in November and run through January. Blackest Night itself is an eight-issue mini-series, so expect the epic to last in both Green Lantern titles until February 2010.

Gah. See this is going too far.

Look at why Sinestro Corps War worked, DC. It wasn't a billion tie-ins shat out for a cheap buck.

Yeah, the ring was fun. Austin Books had the buttons up to now shown at the front counter with the 3(or is it 4) coming soon color buttons(of course I have all the buttons so far, I'm a packrat).

That's exactly why Sinestro Corps War worked, I think I read one of the one-shots that centered on the characters but nothing else.

I will be skipping all of the tie-ins.

Maybe I misread it, but it seemed to me like everyone was visting graves all on the same day and it just read cheesy, to me. I don't like cutesy coincidences.

Also, the sector of space that was wiped out just 'happens' to be number 666? Come on...

This is the first event since World War Hulk that I'm actually coveting.

My local comic shop owner told me today that he's never had a "zombie" comic sell so well. They got 77 copies yesterday and he's now down to 9.

Ressurections anyone?I see a lot of repairing of the DCU coming.
I still think Hal Jordan will be the White Lantern. Maybe with Jon Stewart taking over again as Green Lantern.

That was revealed months ago in GL(or was it GLC), yeah it's a cliched coincidence, but I have high hopes for the rest of this mini.

Re. point 1. Wasn't it set up as a national day of mourning? I believe this was addressed on page 3?

But yeah, the 666 bit was a bit much.

Yes that was clear. Contrived, but clear. And... yes.

They just brought Hal back, they're not going to have him be anything but Green Lantern.

I bought it and enjoyed it, though I don't read any GL titles. I wish they would put strong storylines like this in the main titles. It can still be a huge event like "Blackest Night," but do it in the flagship title.

Like Hulk -- Planet Hulk was a great run, and then they wrapped it up by following it with a "World War Hulk" mini. Why not just do that in the main title?

I kind of like this story idea in Blackest Night. I think there will be many dead people brought back.

The whole War of Light mega-storyline in the Green Lantern books has been outstanding... and it all started with Green Lantern: Rebirth!
