I have never seen this series. Sure, I saw Justice League, but I never got to follow it when it made the jump to the more expanded universe of JLU. Anyway, my buddy just loaned me seasons 1 & 2, so I am going to watch them and periodically review episodes here.

First up, Initiation.

This was a fun episode with a lot of "That's cool" moments and many more, "That's some silly comic book fun there" moments. The story dealt with Green Arrow getting, as the title informs, initiated into the J.L.

The opening grocery store heist foiled by the Green Arrow was quite fun. I think Green Arrow and Hawkeye are both fairly absurd hero concepts, but here I think I saw the light. They made what Green Arrow does fun. The little action scene made me "get" Green Arrow or at least, his story potential.

After the fun little bit of heroing, Green Arrow gets transported to the JL satellite and Superman gives a big speech. Really, during this scene all I could think of, with all these heroes and all this technology, is hard it is believing ANY crime or threat would exist on that earth;, but whatever, I just smiled and went with it. Although, I did have some deconstructionist/Alan Moore thoughts going through my head during the speech.

Anyway, the rest of the story was Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Supergirl (cute, but big head), and Captain Atom going after some big nuclear robot (which looked JB inspired). The fighting was exciting. Of course, Green Arrow saves the day and, after a hot shower and a conversation with Batman in a towel (a bit gay, IMHO), Green Arrow decides to join up (just to get a piece of Black Canary).

Overall, it was fun and the animation looked great. The voice talent was top notch, and I can't wait to watch the other two seasons I have.

I think Green Arrow turns into a teenage girl when Bats is around.

Funny that you say it looked JB inspired. It was. It first showed up (IIRC) in the Legends miniseries that he did.

The monster was Byrne's Brimstone, which is one of a couple of nods to this being the next generation of Justice League animated. Brimstone was a part of Legends, which was the mini-series that kicked off Volume II of the Justice League comic. The other nod is the inclusion of Green Arrow as the story's POV. GA was the first non-charter member of the original Justice League of America, so it's appropriate that the first expansion of the animated JL would be seen through his eyes.

I liked Green Arrow's magic bow, that can shoot anything, even broken reactor rods! (I'm sorry, I just don't care for Green Arrow much.)

There's a surprise.

(Captain Atom's dialogue in that episode was lifted directly from Darin's journal.)

I don't care for Captain Atom either... is that a surprise too?

I'm intrigued. What dialogue of his from the episode "Initiation" was lifted directly from my journal?

JLU is nightly "must see" viewing for me. I love it. I just wish that Boomerang would run Justice League as well.

As for the voice talent, It's neat to take a look at the list of people who provided voices on this show. It's very impressive, and it's almost like voicing a character on JL or JLU became the "cool" thing to do.

You're in for a real treat, Nagoo!

I just watched "Flash and Substance" and "Dead Reckoning" from season 2 last night. Love this series.

"Flash and Substance" makes me yearn for a Flash cartoon series.

He's got a wonderful rogues gallery and they look great animated. I counted 14 alone in the first scene at the dive bar.

It's in the WANderground, Kurt. You wanna make a comment about something being out of my journal and then say I'm trying to ruin a thread? Are you sure that's what you want to do here?

Come now, it just just a one-off comment. Take it in good humor and move on. No need to go right into defense mode.
