I remember "Captain Victory." Never could make heads or tails of it. I have great respect for Jack Kirby's art and its significance in American comic book history. But he could not write to save his life. And it just got worse in his later years.
"Captain Victory" should serve as proof positive that Stan Lee's contribution was indispensible to Marvel's 1960s comics.

Granted, but he still couldn't write dialogue. At all. And his women have always looked kinda butch to me. Still, a fun comic. I picked up most of the run for a quarter a piece several years ago.

I remember my brother commenting years ago on how stocky all the characters were in one of Kirby's war comics. IIRC, the issue in question was set in Russia, so the stocky characters made sense in the context.

I'm currently on pause on this, I have to wait for 10-12 to come in the mail from the ebay seller, I guess I could read the special.

It's definitely not the best writing in a comic book, and his art is nowhere near his FF/New Gods stuff, but it's kinda fun.

Pacific Comics were great. Captain Victory has been collected and reprinted along with the pencils of the first issue in a special issue, IIRC.
Those Pacific Groo's might be worth a pretty penny now, as they were the first. The first ever Groo is a back-up feature in another Pacific title, some swashbuckler thing, Starslayer I think it was called, and I made sure I got that one also. The Groo's are now collected and reprinted together with the early Groo's that followed. Pacific were one of the first in the wave of indie publishers that sprang up in the early 80's. Even Archie got in on the act with Red Circle and some lovely Ditko reprints.

Supposedly this was going to be resurrected at image, creative team unknown. Must have stalled, because I haven't heard anythng about it in a long time.

I picked up the Silver Star one, but not Capt. Victory, since I already have those. Maybe Scioli will be working on it once Godland wraps up.

Since they published one of my letters I am contractually bound to say I love it. I'm not a fan of the more restrained inking in later issues. Some of it reminds me of the dishwater sort of art you see in the bad old romance comics. Beyond that, I really dig the crazy anything goes atmosphere and all the weird alien freaks. Fun comics. One of the few titles I still purchase regularly.

Gødland rocks balls! And I'm not just saying that because they whored me out by posting a blurb from one of my reviews on their trades and ads! CAPT. VICTORY AND THE GALACTIC RANGERS is great late-form (is that a word?) Kirby and my favorite of his post-Big2 work. And it's even more cool if you go back and read it with the understanding that it is essentially Kirby's continuation of the Fourth World just with names and outfits changed to protect the innocent. Capt. Victory being the son of Orion.

I should have issues 10-12 here this week, then I can finish the run. For now, I'm reading old Peter David Hulk issues, I just finished the Troyjan War 4 parter and the Bachelor Party & Wedding issues(412-418).

Finished the Captain Victory run, it wasn't bad and it was a good time killer at lunch. Kirby's art was still energetic, even if some of his designs were a little too confusing.
