Has anyone heard anything on the expanded "Hits!" disc and/or the "Deluxe" "Silk Degrees"? They were due tomorrow and most sites still list "Hits" for tomorrow but "Silk Degrees" appears iffy.

Haven't heard anything but "Silk Degrees" would have been a great SACD.

DanO: I picked up the new Hits! last Friday at Discorama. Completely overhauled from the 1980 edition--new cover, new liner notes, new track list (16 songs), new mastering. Even includes the promo 12" mix of "MIss Sun" (I think that's the one--hafta check tomorrow, left it on my desk at work).

No sign of an expanded Silk Degrees yet. :ohno:

Thanks J-Bo! At least the new, improved "Hits" is a reality! Maybe "Silk Degrees" will show up soon. I have the gold disc, but I'd like an expanded edition.

Erratum: the new Hits! has 15 tracks, not 16. But it does include the 12" mix of "Miss Sun."

DanO, is that the MoFi gold, or the Sony Mastersound gold, or both--like some people?

I think it's the MoFi, but most of my CDs are still in storage boxes - so I can't say for sure.

"Miss Sun" on the "My Time", original "Hits" and new "Hits" are all listed as 5:31. So, what exactly is different about this mix?

If no one here has bitten the bullet to buy any of the Japanese DSD remasters, I will say that they sound better (more clearly defined) than all previous editions, this includes Silk Degrees.
I purchased Down Two, Then Left from this same series and was amazed at how much better it sounds. Evidently Boz was given access to a better studio after the platinum success of Silk Degrees. In the end I was disappointed that the same big difference wasn't apparent on Silk Degrees - it sounds better than any USA release, but seems dull/muted next to the new Down Two

Silk Degrees (Remastered)
On February 27, 2007, Boz Scaggs will release a reissue of Silk Degrees, the breakthrough 5 million seller classic with 3 great hits from Boz Scaggs, as an expanded edition. There will be 3 bonus live tracks from 1976 added to this album making 13 tracks for this reissue.

I don't know if I look at the addition of 3 live tracks as constituting an "expanded edition". I was hoping for additional studio material.

i highly recommend the boz scaggs "greatest hits live" CD.

jimbo turned me on to it and it is extremely good, and very reasonably peiced for a 2-disc set.

What do you folks think of the Hits! remaster? I think it sounds terrific. I only wish "Hollywood" (peaked at #49 in 1978, nine spots higher than "Hard Times") was on there.

I think it sounds great and I'm looking forward to "Silk Degrees" in two weeks.

One of the best albums ever!!! Wish it was a 2 disc set. Can't wait to hear the live bonus tracks.

Even without making it a 2-disc set, there was still a lot of room for extra tracks. That's disappointing, but I'm looking forward to the improved sound.

Well, my Best Buy had one copy of this remaster - just enough for me!

This is definitely a new remaster. The wrapper sticker says "Beautifully Remastered". Any Boz fan will find that description to be mostly accurate.

It is definitely mastered loud, but Boz's vocals come through strong rather than harsh in most incidences. They bring him through warm and true.

Standouts for me are the 2 LP side-closers, Harbor Lights, and We're All Alone, and Low Down.

The kickass live band charges full bore ahead! Jump Street here is much more alive and listenable than the studio version. Boz and the background singers really bring the closer, It's Over, home. It leaves you with a smile on your face.

Add in 2 pages of recollections from Boz among the liner notes plus 2 unused photos from the cover shoot and you have an enjoyable package all around. I didn't know that Boz pieced togrther the lyrics for Harbor Lights from racehorse names in that day's sports section!

Same here.
My Best Buy had exactly one copy. That's it.

(I still haven't seen ELO's new Out Of The Blue remaster at any BB here.)
