Rod Stewart - for one brief, shining album, then it was back in the slump again.

Ellington, Newport 1956. Though he wasn't really in a creative slump, there was a definite career slump. This concert and album revitalized him and he was huge all over again.

Though I think Elvis did record a few decent albums during the Hollywood soundtrack period, I'm not sure.

Sonic Youth lost me after Washing Machine, but I think the last 3 albums redeemed themselves artistically in my book

They had those big hits in the 70's....then a few off years.... Then hits once again in the late 80's.

I was going to sleep by the end of the Council ... very close to going off Weller altogether (and this was just a few years after being an ardent Jam fan), but he did a complete turnaround as a solo artist. Mind you, "rockist" is an insult that could be applied to me.

Elvis Costello redeemed himself with Momofuku, then settled back into his slump with that collection of King Of America & Kojak Variety outtakes he put out last week.
