We all know that most of us are a bit nutty, obsessive and excessive about our collections. The question is, what does that special someone in our life feel about our collection?
So the question is, how supportive are they?
This poll asks that question. Select the phrase that best finishes the following:
My Spouse or S.O....

I picked the 2nd choice down. My wife buys more DVDs than I do but I am way ahead on the CD front. Every once in a while I toy with the idea of seriously thinning out my collection and she's the one who always talks me off of that ledge. She also picked out and ordered the cabinets our CDs/DVDs are housed in.

My wife thinks "I have enough", but does not get too concerned, as she knows part of my fetish is also seeing how good of a deal I get. She does get a little annoyed when she knows I have unopened releases and still by more. She does roll her eyes on yet "another" Grateful Dead purchase (though she enjoys the band).
The upside, on the bands that she does like (which I like), she knows I'll be getting it pretty quick (i.e. The new Green Day).

My wife is just happy I am not a sports husband. She tolerates the CD addiction just fine...even goes to J&R for me on Tuesdays when I need something on release day (she works near there).

Once upon a time she tolerated it (and my comic book habit) well. Now, as my collection has gradually outgrown the space she deemed appropriate for it in our house, she wishes it would all just go away...

Guess I'm lucky to be able to pick the first choice, but it sure does make storage an adventure sometimes.

She has moved from a B/C to a definite D as the collection has begun to assert mainfest destiny over the house, threatening to require that it go to offsite storage. Jay

Initially my wife was in shock when it dawned on her she just married a CD collecting nut. But over the years she's gotten used to it and I have calmed down with the buying.

Jay Part of my problem (and perhaps yours as well since we are in the same profession) is that, as my discretionary income increased, what I was willing to buy increased with it. As such, while there was a time when I would have refused to buy much classical or the Band or Allman Brothers for example, now I'm willing to give those a try if there's a SACD or MFSL version or Hoffman has mastered them. My wife rightly points out that when we first married, they would have not been found in my collection and she accuses me of buying things I don't like just for the sake of buying them. We-e-elll, there is a method to my madness but it probably veers closer to OCD than I'd like to acknowledge...

Well, fellas, when your wife or S.O. complains, just remember the old standby: "Could be worse...you could be married to Jimbo!"

My GF is refreshingly grounded (as in "not obsessive-compulsive") in her enjoyment of music. She's huge into Pearl Jam, tolerates my Britney collection, and is curious about Dylan. She's also the first female I've ever met who actually likes the Who. She hates Bruce Springsteen and the Beatles, a hate I share with her (despite the fact that I own all of both of their albums). We both love Spinal Tap, quote the movie extensively to each other, and saw the "Unwigged" tour in St. Pete. We also both DESPISE the Eagles--as a group as well as both Glen Frey and Don Henley as solo performers. On the DVD front, together we are right now plowing through "South Park", season by season.
I'm still pinching myself.

My wife still buys CDs (not even close to what I have) and understands completely my passion for it. I've eased off on the concert front the last couple of years, so that helps. She now has somewhat of an understanding about remasters and compression and such. She likes her music loud too so we usually have no problems with today's remastering-guess we were made for each other!

I'd think you'd be supportive of my habit! My wife is very cool with my music habit - CDs and instruments. She's even pushed me over the edge on a couple things like the theremin. It helps that I don't smoke, don't really drink, don't go out a lot. Actually, she's a little less happy with the DVDs, but I think she just gives me that one. Although back when CDs first came out, I was on a fairly strict 8 CD per month limit (under $8 didn't count). The Kiss solo albums on CD put a crimp in my style when they came out! Alan

There was a time when I would have chosen the "wishes I'd get rid of all of it" option, but my wife has softened a bit over the years, so now she's just a little annoyed. It helps that we're a lot more financially secure than we used to be.

Knowing Jimbo has helped me as my wife sees I'm not that bad. I can control my drinking, I mean collecting. Is there a 12 steps program for obsessive collectors?
