This was released six years ago, but if you want to hear samples of Penny Marshall & Cindy Williams singing on this album tie-in to their TV show, you can do so here:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000AC87Y/?tag=imwan-20

But only if you want to hear them sing.

The '70s are so interesting in retrospect.

IIRC, this was one of the worst selling
records of all time when it was originally
released, though I do believe the all
time worst seller was Richard Thompson's
As Henry The Human Fly, when it was
originally released on Warner Bros.

Now, if they'd only reissue The Odd
Couple Sings! That, I'd buy.

Me too! For bonus tracks they could throw in some of the musical moments from the TV show.

I love to get a copy of "Lenny & The Swigtones". Pure novelty. I got it at a department store
but when i got it home it was warped. Took it back and never seen another one.

I saw them on a talk show when this came out. They were on ostensibly to promote the album. They were discussing some of the tracks, and I recall them reciting the lyrics to "Da Doo Ron Ron ", and doing so in a condescending manner.
If you're going to sing the song, I thought to myself, then do so with pride and passion.
I never liked Laverne and Shirley as much after that.

"Yes, he caught my eye
Yes, my oh my.
And when he walked me home
Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron"

While we're on the subject of novelty records by TV personalities, I'm still waiting for a CD reissue of Count Floyd's EP.

Although one track, "Reggae Christmas Eve in Transylvania," did show up on a Christmas comp a few years ago.

I don't want to hear Laverne & Shirley ever sing again.

That show hasnt aged well has it? It was pretty big in its day following Happy Days but it doesn't hold up all these years later.

Indeed. I thought it was almost insanely funny at the time (at least up to the point that the whole cast moved to California), but I can't even sit through an episode these days.

Although I watched Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley (since they ran back to back on ABC), I didn't like L&S nearly as much as HD. And when they moved the show to California, it wasn't even as good as it had been previously.

I believe L&SS was originally on Atlantic. I understand only 7776 copies were sold, and I've never seen or heard any of them. Suits me!

Here's hoping the Collectors Choice reissue is a limited edition and that it goes away, soon.

In spite of the fact that so many people have a hatred for this album, does anyone actually have the actual CD? If so, please PM me.

I have a copy of this actual CD. I bought it when it was first released. I had the original album (and the "Da Doo Ron Ron"/"Chapel of Love" single!) as a kid and played it to death. I bought the CD purely for nostalgia reasons. (I never in a million years dreamed it would be reissued!) Yes, it is horrible but it is a guilty pleasure I still enjoy that takes me back to my childhood. If there is anything that "saves" it, it is the fact that it they do the entire album in character. Penny can't carry a tune in bucket, but she does bring "Laverne's" personality through on the record very well. Cindy's voice isn't too bad. It's pleasant but very average. Melissa Manchester provides backing vocals on most of the tracks and the arrangements are actually pretty good.

Thanks for the response! I'm really surprised that I missed this one for the same reasons you have it...nostalgia and such. I guess it just kept not getting around to picking it up. Check your PMs.

Does anyone else have this CD? You don't have to admit it publicly. A PM will be fine. Thanks!

I'm glad someone revived this thread, because it reminds us all: This album actually exists.

:ohno:

I never actually watched the series, and didn't get the CD when it was available. But now I kinda wish I had.
