In 'Toy Story 3,' for instance ... we found actually an old friend of [Varney's] who sounds an awful lot like him — another actor that's going to be doing that voice," Lasseter said of the character's return. "It'll be hard to replace Paul Newman [in Cars 2], but we don't know yet."

Really? I didn't even notice Paul Newman in Cars.
And does Cameron Diaz really have such a distinctive voice that she is paid $10,000,000 for Shrek 2? Dang.

He was the main bad guy voice.
He was Doc Hudson, the judge/town doctor who became Lightning's mentor. Perfect casting, considering Newman's lifelong interest in racing.
I just never really saw that one under circumstances that were fair to the movie. I didn't have kids yet (at least old enough to watch it). I didn't see it at the movies. I didn't see it for years. The kids watched it a million times while I was in the room for parts of it.
So I've seen it, but it kind of just unfurled on me. I didn't like it as well as the others, but I'm not prepared to say where it should rank -- could be behind Toy Story, could be ahead.
It was good, though. Head and shoulders above most things (like all Pixar).
I really like Monsters Inc. Really a wonderful story and great voice acting from John Goodman and Billy Crystal. I'd rank it very high on the PIXAR ladder.
